We're back in Paris for the 3rd edition of #Ledger Op3n!

Stay tuned for exclusive announcements from our CEO @_pgauthier, our CXO @iancr, our CTO @P3b7_, and an exciting guest. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…
And we're live here at #LedgerOp3n!

@AWengroff and @CRLNDRSN will be kicking things off with a look back on 2022 at Ledger, and an overview of what you have to look forward to during this edition of Op3n.
Our CEO @_pgauthier is taking the stage now at #LedgerOp3n to talk about why Ledger is so important for the Web3 ecosystem!
"As an individual or an enterprise, security and self custody are not optional, they are a must-have.

No other solution has Ledger’s combination of security, self-custody, connectivity and ease-of-use for both individuals and enterprises." - @_pgauthier
"With the events of the past month, so many of you have recommended Ledger and helped friends and family bring their funds to the secure self custody of Ledger Nano.

We don’t take this for granted, and sincerely appreciate your belief in what we do." - @_pgauthier
"Our Nano series is the most successful security hardware of all time, having now sold nearly 6 million devices and never once being hacked.

Ledger now secures more than 20% of the world’s crypto assets, and 30% of all NFTs." - @_pgauthier
Ledger has invested in an attack-lab called @DonjonLedger with the world’s top security experts and best white-hat hackers out there. They constantly test Ledger’s solutions, as well as other products.

"The Donjon is the best line of defense against hackers" - @_pgauthier.
"We are here to enable you on your journey by providing the best security in the space.

And this is what Ledger Op3n is all about! It’s about what we do with you in mind, it’s about developers, it’s about security."
"In 2021 alone, over 14 billion dollars were hacked, scammed, or compromised...Those who use a Ledger device...are simply not concerned by all these problems. This goes back to what we've been saying since the beginning: not your keys, not your coins" - @_pgauthier.
"Crypto exists to be decentralized and transparent, not to rely on centralized entities prone to mismanagement or hacks. Web3’s most significant promise is to empower YOU and give YOU control over your assets and your life." - @_pgauthier.
"Ledger's mission is to secure the Web3 ecosystem and make it easier-to-use, through the most secure hardware, operating system and software in the world." - @_pgauthier
Next up, our CXO @iancr is here to discuss why Web3 hardware is needed to secure Web3 assets & value!
"For the past 7 years Ledger has set the standard for secure hardware. Our unwavering belief is that this new human invention, digital scarcity, powered by public blockchains, becomes indispensable in our lives" - @iancr
"Digital goods & services will become a part of everyday life...That feels a long way off, but think how much has changed in the last 25 years.

In the 90s people said “everyone will never have broadband!.” 10 years later they said “Everyone will never have a smartphone!”
"If our value and identity are digital, then digital asset security is NOT optional.

Self custody is a right. Protecting your private key, with a secure chip, and signing transactions with a secure screen and input are required basic security needs" - @iancr.
"Ledger is the company that secures your digital life, today and tomorrow.

Your $1000 smartphone is not secure, but by adding a relatively inexpensive Ledger to that phone you take custody of your own assets with the world’s best security" - @iancr.
Ledger Nano has sold millions...but this is just the beginning.

It’s time for the world of digital security to have its iPod moment.

So, we called in the only person on the planet who could tackle this challenge… the inventor of the iPod, @tfadell.
Now onstage at #LedgerOp3n - the inventor of the iPod, @tfadell.
"It’s a pleasure to be sharing the stage with my friends, Ian and Pascal.

2 years ago, they approached me to help them.

They asked, “Can you work with us to reinvent the Ledger?”

I was curious about these new technologies, and the security team that built them." - @tfadell.
"The idea of reinventing a Ledger wallet chased me. I couldn’t run away. I saw a big opportunity and big problems to solve. And I like solving big problems.

So I convinced myself.. I had to accept this challenge" - @tfadell.
"Right now I carry around a bunch of things in a wallet in my pocket:
- credit cards
- an insurance card
- a transit pass
- my identification card

In my other pocket is my phone…and it actually has a lot of those cards on it.

Why am I carrying both?"
"Because…I don’t trust everything on my phone.

So, if we can’t trust our smartphones, but we want all the convenience they deliver – what do we do?

We need a secure digital wallet - Ledger's got that. Not. A. Single. Ledger wallet has been hacked. That's insane."
"I decided to try everything on the market today.

This was the reality:
- Black boxes, lots of buttons, tiny screens, nothing intuitive.
- Many different sizes, but very little distinction.

Nothing intuitive. And they look like other products that already exist!" - @tfadell.
"It hit me:

“Wait a second! I’ve been here before!"

This is what MP3 players looked like BEFORE the iPod!” - @tfadell.
"Just like a wallet is unique to each owner, each new Ledger has to be personalized.

All the existing hardware wallets are anonymous: black plastic and blank when they’re off." - @tfadell.
"I looked at another iconic object: the Kindle. It’s a display that can show images, even when the power is off. That lets you make it personal. Make Ledger your own.

So, we use E-Ink to make a new Ledger wallet personal."
"We need many Ledgers to work together, so that when I’ve got a stack of them I see all of my things as a whole.

Have them stack magnetically & because E Ink lets us wrap the screen around the wallet, you can identify them like books: by their covers, by their spines"- @tfadell.
"You’ll know your device is yours even when the power is off, right out of the box.

We had the new Ledger wallet - it would replace a stack of cards and stacks of cash.

So I’m proud to introduce you to…

LEDGER STAX!" - @tfadell.
Our CTO @P3b7_ is onstage now at #LedgerOp3n to tell us all about the security of our upcoming device, the Ledger Stax!
"Before talking about the security of the new Ledger Stax, let’s zoom in to understand why Ledger devices are the most secure wallets out there.

When you self-custody your cryptos, and you should, there are 3 paramount security properties that need to be fulfilled." - @P3b7_
"#1: You must be able to generate your secrets. Remember self custody means you own your secrets - you must be able to generate your secrets in a secure enclave - a dedicated circuit which only implements security while the application runs in a general purpose environment."
"#2: Your secrets must never leave the enclave. That means the cryptography must be implemented inside this secure circuit. Whenever a transaction is signed, the computation must happen inside the circuit."
"#3: Your wallet must allow you to understand the actions you are going to consent to in a secure and therefore trusted manner. It’s what we call the clear signing, meaning that what you see is what you sign."
"Ledger is the only wallet provider in the world to combine those 3 security properties using the Smartcard technology for the secure element, the Ledger Operating system and a dedicated trusted display" - @P3b7_.
"When we designed Ledger Stax, our biggest requirement from a security standpoint was to fulfill those 3 security properties while improving user experience.

What we did was reuse our Ledger Nano security architecture, then we improved the trusted display property" @P3b7_.
"Ledger Stax implements a bigger screen directly driven by the Ledger OS in the secure element. Increasing the size of the screen makes it easier for you, users, to understand all your transactions, to understand all your interactions with the blockchain" - @P3b7_.
"We had to make sure the new chosen architecture wouldn’t leak any sensitive data.

We worked a lot with the @DonjonLedger team, our world class security research team.

The team spent months trying to find vulnerabilities on the device and to improve the design accordingly."
"Security is a never-ending journey and as such Ledger’s commitment to security leads to relentless testing.

I believe that at this stage, Ledger Stax is the most secure solution in the ecosystem." - @P3b7_
That's a wrap on Day 1 of Ledger Op3n! We're thrilled to introduce you to Ledger Stax - keep an eye out for more behind-the-scenes info from @_pgauthier, @tfadell, @iancr & @P3b7_ coming soon.

Tune in tomorrow for Day 2, featuring a Developers Keynote, discussion panels & more!

Going LIVE -

Tune in to our Twitter Space with @danheld @AlexZINDER3 and @Nicolas41462375 from @KomainuCustody to talk about the importance of Responsible Governance in the post-FTX crypto world.
@danheld @AlexZINDER3 @Nicolas41462375 @KomainuCustody "This is definitely not a new event in crypto and in financial services. What happened at FTX was a result of a series of bad governance decisions made where consumer funds were mismanaged and rendered insolvable."

"At its core, it's a systematic failure." -@AlexZINDER3
"We had FTX using client funds for trading, SBF's billion dollar loans to himself, lack of corporate accounting. In bear markets, when the tide goes out, you see who's swimming without the trunks. You can see a lot of 'top-notch' companies were too relaxed with rules." -@danheld

Tune in for what everyone's excited about for Ledger Op3n 👇
It's been a crazy month...this November has been the best sales month in Ledger's history...you just hope that people don't learn the hard way but obviously a lot of people have learned things the hard way over the past month and really over the past 14 years" - @iancr
"Right now while it's slower in the market, it's time to really zone in on everyone's niches, really settle into our individual lanes & just go really hard there. I'm seeing that across a lot of different projects - the identity of the brands are becoming stronger" - @betty_nft
