To what extent are the two technologies compatible?

I've found an interesting article in Spanish on this subject and had the pleasure of translating part of its content to make this thread 🧵.

Let's start at the beginning.

In Cloud systems, the services used are hosted in third-party infrastructures, i.e., we trust an external entity.

Whereas blockchain technology consists of creating a decentralized database in which there is no trusted authority.

So, how can blockchain technology and the cloud marry?

Cloud systems have undergone tremendous growth since their inception.

Beyond serving as infrastructure to store data, it also provides applications to work on.

There are even services under the cloud modality, such as Microsoft Azure's "Ethereum Blockchain as a Service" or the new Alibaba Cloud's "Avalanche Node as a Service."

But isn't it a contradiction to offer blockchain services under this modality?

Keep attention to this part 👀.

Cloud services depend on the entity that hosts them. So when using them, that means we trust that entity.

Each of our network nodes depends on the entity that offers this service, i.e., the system we are operating on does not belong to us.

However, it should be noted that once the network is deployed, control over it becomes ours.

In addition, the infrastructure under which these networks are created follows the architecture of a distributed system. Therefore, no centralized body has total control of all the data.

On the other hand, the development and deployment of Smart Contracts remain in our hands.

So, as developers, we are the ones who decide the logic that will be executed in our blockchain.

Let's go back to Avalanche x Alibaba.

Finally, it is worth noting that Cloud infrastructure is a much better option than relying on any traditional data infrastructure.

Cloud systems offer guaranteed security for transactions and customer data. In addition, there is high availability for more innovative solutions that can be built in the future.
