Few places I’ve ever been I FELT the racism than when I drove through the state of Wyoming on a cross country trip west during law school and stopped for gas. The place looked and felt like I stepped through a time portal with a diner attached to a station with an old school pump

I was so glad it was daylight when I stopped. Those diners’ eyes trained on us in a way that pierced me. Yeah, decided not to eat a damn thing. Zoomed TF out of there. Anyway, I think of Liz Cheney representing those people. It’s many parts of the country like this

It’s not just states with a bunch of land and backwards people. It’s suburbs, pockets of areas in cities just like Wyoming where white homogeneity is expected, desired, fostered as a shield to protect a certain type of “culture”

Ryan Coogler 911 call clearly shows:

1. Teller admits to receiving ID & NOT looking at it

2. Dispatch sent officers BEFORE receiving all pertinent info & says “none of his information was even verified” & sounded like even she didn’t believe a crime was in progress

After watching the officers body cams as listening to that 911 call, it’s clear Ryan Coogler’s civil rights were trampled on by first Bank of America, then police. When police realized who Coogler was tried to justify on body cam BUT then put in police report it was BofA fault

“Ok so none of his information is even verified” but we’re sending officers WTF

The 911 operator could have easily directed the teller to actually LOOK at Coogler’s ID & pull his mask down to see his face before sending officers to potentially kill a man. This is so disgusting

Ryan Coogler being arrested for trying to take out $12k of his OWN money shows Anti-Blackness is often perpetrated by other Black people. Customer service to Black people by other Black often is often far worse than the placation given to white customers

Many Black people have experienced poor customer service by other Black people, and have even seen a code switch in real time to more professional courtesy to white customers. Ryan Coogler’s situation isn’t a new phenomenon.
