Panditaratnam Gowdagere Venkataramanacharya- One of the Greatest Scholars of all time
He was born in the year 1855, to the Couple namely, Sri Vasudevacharya and Smt Janakamma, in a traditional Shashtika family, which was well known as Mahidhara(Bettada).
At the time when the great Sri Vyasaraja was performing pooja to Lord Venkateshwara at Tirumala, the ancestors of this family served him devotedly.
Therefore the name Bettada (hill) was attached to this family. Srikrishnadevaraya of Vijayayanagar had donated a village called Gowra-pura (now known as Gowdagere) to Sri Vyasaraja,a part of which in turn was given with blessings to this family by the benevolent Sri Vyasarajaru.
Sri Venkataramanacharya had three elder brothers namely, Sri Gundacharya, Sri Raghavendracharya, and Sri Venkatanarasimhacharya, each one was a well known Scholar. Having lost his father in the childhood itself,
Sri Acharya studied under the guidance of his elder brother Sri Raghavendracharya and became an expert in Nyayasudha, Vyasatraya, etc. He was greatly honoured with awards in the royal courts of Mysore, Baroda and Thiruvancore.
In the Seminars conducted by Sri Sathyadhyana Tirtha and other Pontiffs, everybody was adoring his profound knowledge. Even the pontiff of Sringerimutt Sri Nrusimha Bharathi honoured him. His fame was spread upto even Varanasi which is a center of Education.
He taught in Sri Jayachamarajendra Sankrit College, Bangalore for many years. The works of Sri Acharya चन्द्रिकाप्रकाशप्रसर, अद्वैतदीपिकावातागम, जीवकर्तृत्वविचार are the clear evidence for his genuine scholarship, ...
in depth knowledge in Vedanta and expertise in analysing difficult matters of Shastras. He ended his worthy life in the year 1925. We can see such a scholar very rarely.
