Most people suck at writing.

But if you use these 10 writing secrets, I guarantee you won’t:

🧵
Write line by line

The worst thing you can be online is boring.

If you don’t vary sentence length, your reader will drown you out. So, use this trick:

Write your drafts line by line (h/t @sivers)

Make your sentences sing.
Rule of One

Most writers attempt to say too much.

But if you try to please everyone, you please no one.

Always use the Rule of One:

· One big idea
· One captivating story
· One core emotion
· One core benefit
· One call to action

Specificity is the secret.
Use the Zombie Test

Passive voice is wordy and confusing.

If weak writing is the problem, zombies are the solution.
Swap Your Sentence Structure

People remember the final word the most.

If you want your sentences to hit hard, finish strong.
The 50% Rule

Schools teach you to maximise word counts. The internet does the opposite.

Set a rule to force more quality:

From first draft to publishing, reduce the volume by 50%.

Say what needs to be said, then say no more.
Round 2 Writing

Most people publish and move on.

But your best ideas are a result of iteration.

If at first you don’t succeed, refine and try again.
Swap Complexity for Clarity

Confusion is the killer.

You can’t make an impact if you’re trying to impress.

Simplify your language.

Be clear, not clever. Concise, not complex.
Slippery Slope Writing

The best writing feels effortless to read.

Use:
· Curiosity
· Questions
· Open loops

Help your audience glide down the page.
Package Your Best Ideas

The ‘sticky writing’ toolkit:
· Juxtaposition
· Alliteration
· Symmetry
· Rhymes
· Rhythm

Don’t ruin important ideas with poor packaging.
Dive Deep With The 5 Why’s

A golden rule of human motivation:

We act with emotion then justify with logic.

… Which means your writing should too.

For each point you make, ask ‘Why should they care?’

Drill down to core desires.

I'm hoping santa will help me hit 100k by Christmas.

Once I get there, I'm going to start spreading to more platforms.

What should be my priority in 2023?
Time to spread Kieran Drew's love all over the internet.
.... That sounded better in my head.

People complain writing on Twitter is a waste of time.

But trust me:

With 90,000 followers, every tweet is a test for good ideas. Your audience votes with their attention. Save the data and build a body of pre-validated work you can repurpose everywhere.

Be smart about it.
Picture it like sharpening your ideas in public.
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” - Abraham Lincoln.

2 years pumping out quantity to prepare for distribution of quality.

One of the best ways to make money online:

Digital products.

But most people think they need to be an expert to build one.

Mine now makes $2000-3000 per month (mostly automated).

Here’re 10 tips to ace your first product:
Content is your credential.

You don’t need to be an expert, but you do need authority.

Which means you need to prioritize value over virality:
· Actionable advice
· Valuable threads
· Proof of results

The more people trust you, the more they pay.
Build an email list.

80% of my income comes from my email list despite being 1/10th the size.

Your:
· Launch series
· Welcome series
· Weekly newsletter

are powerful assets.

But a list takes time. Collect emails now to prepare for later.

I reply to every email.

I send a personalised video to anyone who buys my product.

I offer additional support to people who pick up my coaching calls.

If you want to stand out, go one step further.

Like Paul Graham says:

Do the things that don't scale.
I do this because 12 months ago, I was a complete beginner in my niche.

You'll never catch up with your competition doing the same thing as them.

Work out how you can be different.
If you lack experience, bring energy.

A powerful habit that changed my life:

Journaling.

But most journaling routines are boring and repetitive. So 3 months ago, I started a new system.

100x more fun.
100x more impactful.

Here’s how to journal right:
I’ve been journaling for 2 years now.

And I’ve followed the usual routine…

· Goal for the day
· 3x daily gratitude
· Nightly reflections

The problem is it becomes a chore.

…A tickbox exercise that loses its meaning.
The point in journaling isn’t to skim the surface.

It’s to gain a deeper understanding.

You explore ideas.

You dive into what makes you tick.

You reflect on options and make better decisions.

So instead of wasting 20 min a day with a boring schedule, here’s what to do…
