Before Brexit it was all #ProjectFear wasn't it? Post Brexit we are looking at some of the worst consequences that any government has inflicted on a nation without cause or provocation. 1/
Shortages of anti-biotics. As we stare at a strep A crisis and scarlet fever the Prime Minister is telling us there is no pressure on the supply of anti-biotics. Pharmacies tell us otherwise. 2/
Power shortages. While the government tells us that there won't be power outages this winter we know that they are planning scenarios for exactly that. 3/
Increases in bills across food, fuel and anything that is imported from the EU. People that never thought they'd suffer from fuel poverty are having to sit in cold houses. 4/
Labour shortages: from hospitals and agriculture - and inability to fill important roles and the consequences are on us. 5/
Increased levels of hate crime and racial intolerance: Brexit was never about racism they said. Funny how much more racist the country has become since it was emboldened by Brexit ignorance though? 6/
Damage to small businesses through a lack of access to the single market. Simple as that. New trade deals? New trade partnerships? Rubbish. Nothing has materialised. 7/
Let's not forget the instability that has been caused in Ireland and undermining the Good Friday Agreement. I mean - well worth jeopardising peace in a region that was ruined by bombs and bullets? 8/
In the meanwhile of course all the Brexit benefits to the fishing industry, to agriculture, the dividend to the NHS - all yet to materialise. Surprisingly empty promises from the likes of David Davis, Jacob Rees Mogg, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove. 9/
And yet the politicians have to pretend that Brexit was worth it. And that we have to persist with it - because of an advisory referendum that was twisted to a 2% margin through foreign money and undeclared interests. 10/
I'm going to dedicate this tweet to the Brexit benefits that we've all experienced so far:
[insert anything if you can, just above this line] 11/
Grasping for any success at all, Boris Johnson tried to suggest that the vaccine roll out was somehow more possible because of Brexit. I'm sure die-hard Brexiters believe him - but then they tend to overlap with climate change deniers, racists & anti-vaxers anyway (irony) 12/
So I'm sat in a country that has fuel and food poverty, inflation, industrial action, an unstable unelected government (I thought we were 'taking back control from the unelected'?), supply shortages, child and family poverty and a growing problem with racism. 13/
It might be time to get the Tories out of government, put them in the bin, and never allow them to run this country again. It is hard to conceive of how they could possibly have made more of a chaotic mess of the last 12 years. 14/
Retweet if you've had enough and you demand: 1) A general election 2) Electoral reform & an end to FPTP 3) Fair pay deals for public sector workers 4) Most support for children and families in poverty 5) A return to the EU 6) An elected head of state and second chamber #GTTO

The situation around Prince Andrew was an acid test for society in the UK. A man convicted of child abuse is alleged to have trafficked a 17 year old to the Prince for the purposes of sex. It is alleged that Andrew Windsor was knowingly complicit. 1/
Andrew Windsor admits to being close friends with this child abuse perpetrator - and indeed stayed at his homes on multiple occasions. He has been photographed both with the man and with the girls that man abused. 2/
Anyone else in such a circumstance would be arrested and interviewed on suspicion of relevant offences. At the very minimum you would expect them to be interviewed formally under caution. Given the attending circumstances you'd anticipate a trial 3/
If ever there was evidence needed that the Tories are determined to take us backwards, the opening of a coal mine in Cumbria is the perfect metaphor. Let's consider the other examples though? 1/ #GTTO
Withdrawal from the single market. Absolute slow hand clap to the Tories and the ERG for closing access to an absolutely essential structure to our economy. 2/
Human Rights: they actually want to take away our human rights. They want to take us back to a time when we weren't protected by the ECHR. Instead they want to introduce their own bill to deny fundamental principles like protesting their policies & industrial action. 3/
It's only a week before we will be setting up our Winter Wonderland event in Cambridge. Thanks to the generosity of Twitter we have bought £1000 worth of Lego toys for Father Christmas to give out to under privileged children from all backgrounds gf.me/u/3xyfrc
1/4
Your kindness and generosity has also helped us to fund more child friendly activities to take place over the two day period so that children & families can come along to take part & experience what we hope will be an early piece of Christmas magic. 2/4
We are grateful to everyone who has donated - thank you so much for your kindness and generosity (which will have changed Christmas for so many kids) - if you haven't seen this yet and would like to contribute please click the link and gift only give what you can afford to 3/4
Poverty and children - a short thread: I work in schools with children who are at risk of being excluded from mainstream education. A high proportion of these children share similar personal circumstances, which may include the follows (frequent overlaps): 1/20
Domestic abuse, violence and conflict in the home or they had fled such circumstances. The ongoing relationship in such situations then include the problem of a toxic parent(s) with a damaging influence; 2/20
Low socio-economic-status - being low family income, a view of the work place being a negative and oppressive experience and being persistently treated in society as a second class citizen because their family lacks presentation, prestige or social gravitas or contacts; 3/20
I think it is time for the cost of politics to go through the austerity machine. There are police forces now that have ZERO canteens to feed officers. Here's what we do: 1/16
Never mind subsidised restaurants. London is full of places to eat. Close the restaurants in Parliament. All of them. Let 'the members' go and buy a sandwich in Boots or bring a packed lunch. 2/16
Expenses? Nope. If the average expenses bill is £150,000 for 650 'members' that's nearly £100 million per year saved right there. Which in context is the turnover of an *entire* smaller police force per annum 3/16
What I *never* get my head around is an average person - no royal connections - arguing bitterly with another very similar person about Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. As if Markle or Middleton give two shits about either person doing so. 1/4
Can people not see this false dichotomy or operate with the ability to recognise the flaws in both women (and in fact all people) instead of fawning over one and being spiteful about the other? 2/4
I think this stuff is a deplorable distraction from the real issues of inequality, the authentic problems we have in our society, and the need for us to actually recognise and make changes to a country so rich and where yet children are unfed. 3/4
