How to make great decisions async and save yourself and your team from drowning in a calendar like this: Image
1/ Loop in the right people

Every decision should ideally have one decision maker and fewer than five stakeholders to provide input.

Avoid too many cooks in the kitchen. Image
2/ Give context

Write a decision doc with:

1. List of people involved
2. Context
3. Recommendation (don't bury the lede)
4. List of options with pros and cons Image
3/ Keep the discussion in one place

Pick one channel or doc for people to provide input.

Avoid starting a bunch of separate threads and then having to play a game of telephone to figure out who said what. Image
4/ Push for a decision

When it looks like people are reaching alignment, the decision maker should push for consensus or "agree to disagree". Image
5/ Document and share the decision

Once confirmed, share the decision far and wide so that everyone is on the same page. Image
6/ To recap:

1. Loop in the right people
2. Give context
3. Keep the discussion in one place
4. Push for a decision
5. Document and share the decision

PMs spend years building product sense, yet few apply the same thinking to their career.

This is a big mistake.

Here are 3 ways to reframe product questions for your career:
1/ What customer problem are you solving?

- What's your life mission?
- Who is your target customer?
- What outcome do you want them to have?
2/ What's the top customer benefit?

- What do you want to be world-class at?

Ok going to live blog SBF's interview with NYTimes for a bit. Let's see how much of a shitshow this is: 👇
1/ You can watch the interview live yourself here: nytimes.com/live/2022/11/3…
2/ SBF: "In terms of the accounting mistake, I think there's a discrepancy in the financials vs. Alameda's dashboards. That's one of the reasons I was surprised."

Damn, much be a serious logging error.

Andor has some of the most inspiring speeches that I've ever seen on TV.

If you care about freedom and fighting for what's right, Andor's speeches will move you deeply even if you don't like Star Wars.

Here are 4 of the best from the show (some spoilers): Image
1/ "There will be times when the struggle seems impossible..." - Nemik Image
2/ "I yearn to lift you because I want you to go on..." - Maarva Image

I recently came across a story about a fisherman and a businessman.

It helped me reflect on my career and life so I hope that it resonates with you too: 🧵 Image
1/ One day, a fisherman was rowing a small boat towards the shore having caught a few fish.

A businessman came along and asked: “How long did it take you to catch this?"

The fisherman replied, “Oh, just a short while.”
2/ Businessman: “Then why don’t you stay longer at sea and catch even more?”

Fisherman: “This is enough to feed my whole family.”

Businessman: “So, what do you do for the rest of the day?”

Bob Iger has returned as Disney's CEO.

During his last 15 year run, he grew Disney's market cap from $55B to $260B and did 4 landmark deals:

Fox: $71B
Pixar: $7.4B
Marvel: $4B
Lucasfilm: $4B

I recently watched his masterclass where he shared his 8 favorite leadership traits:
1/ Use humor

"I like people who are serious about what they do but don't take themselves seriously...

...people that have the ability to tell a good joke or, you know, laugh every once in a while at a situation or even at themselves."
2/ Operate with integrity

"Set high standards for yourself and for the people around you.

Operate with brains, energy, and integrity. If someone has the first two but not the third - watch out."
