In 2013, Farrar was appointed Director of the Wellcome Trust. During his time at the Wellcome Trust, with Chris Whitty and Neil Ferguson, he co-authored an article in Nature titled "Infectious disease: Tough choices to reduce Ebola transmission", explaining the UK government's

response to Ebola in Sierra Leone, including the proposal to build and support centres where people could self-isolate voluntarily if they suspected that they could have the disease.

On 5 May 2020, it emerged that Ferguson had resigned from his position as a government advisor

on the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) committee after admitting to "undermining" the government's messages on social distancing by trysting Antonia Staats. He reportedly wore a mask during boning but did get within 6’ to lay the pipe. The curve was not

flattened.

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, said that he was right to resign from his advisory position.

In July 2015, George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Cabinet Office minister Matt Hancock cornered a mouse in the Chancellor's

In the United Kingdom, Farrar was part of the Scientific Advisory Group

for Emergencies (SAGE), led by Patrick Vallance.

From 2012 to 2018, Vallance was President of Research and Development at global pharmaceutical company, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).

Under his leadership, new medicines for cancer, asthma, autoimmune diseases and HIV infection were

discovered and approved for use worldwide. He championed open innovation and novel industry-academic partnerships globally, and maintained a focus on the search for new antibiotics and treatments for tropical diseases.

In March 2020, as the government's Chief Scientific Adviser,

Vallance appeared alongside prime minister Boris Johnson and the Chief Medical Officer for England, Chris Whitty, in televised briefings on the COVID-19 pandemic.

In September, it emerged that Vallance owns a deferred bonus of 43,111 shares worth £600,000 in GlaxoSmithKline, a

company which is working on developing a COVID vaccine. This led to claims of a potential conflict of interest, as Vallance could be seen to have a financial interest in pushing for a vaccine-based response to the pandemic whether or not this is objectively the best approach.

Then Health Secretary Matt Hancock denied that this was the case.

Sir Andrew Philip Witty (born 22 August 1964) is a British business executive, who is the current chief

executive officer (CEO) of UnitedHealth Group. He was also the CEO of GlaxoSmithKline between 2008 and 2017.

In April 2020, Witty took a one-year leave of absence from Optum to assist the World Health Organization in developing a vaccine for COVID-19. In May 2020, Witty was

appointed to the expert advisory group for the UK Government's Vaccine Task Force, chaired by Patrick Vallance.

In April 2021, Wittu was also appointed to the Pandemic Preparedness Partnership (PPP), an expert group chaired by Vallance to advise the G7 presidency held by the

government of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson.
