I happened to marry a person of opposite gender & from my same race (or whatever those categories mean), but that doesn’t mean I’m any less happy for the folks who did it differently. Today love wins. I feel sorry for the folks who don’t feel that way. 🫶 #loveislove
Trump's hero narrative is fascist. He claims to have been purified to fight corruption, so his followers owe him their loyalty. Also, lmk if you want to talk about presidents claiming to be heroes. I published a book about that too.
My latest Rhetorical Tricks: Defending Against the Dark Arts piece just posted at @ResoluteSquare. Prompted by what I've seen around the #TwitterFiles & Abbott's "invasion" rhetoric. Read about frame warfare here: resolutesquare.com/articles/1Bu02…
"Frame warfare is the way that propagandists battle to control how we think about things, events, people, and political controversies..."
"You might think that propaganda is limited to controlling what we think, but dark arts practitioners know that controlling how we think about things is just as important as controlling what we think about."
see what I mean about the "agenda setting wars"? and how so much of our political discourse is about controlling our political discourse? the infowars are everything.
Opening lines: "The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles. Freeman and slave, patrician and plebeian, lord and serf, guild-master and journeyman, in a word, oppressor and oppressed, stood in constant opposition to one another,"
So, if you want "independent legislatures" to be a real thing, then you actually are an Anti-Federalist who is against the ratification of the Constitution 1787-1789. You support the Articles of Confederation. I'm sorry to inform you that your side lost that debate.
If you'd like to read more, please see Hamilton's argument in Federalist 15: "While they admit that the government of the United States is destitute of energy, they contend against conferring upon it those powers which are requisite to supply that energy..."
Backstory: my 9 yo has recently (and somewhat inappropriately) become obsessed with Jax, especially her song, "I know Victoria's Secret."
Do you know this song? Lyrics include:
Scene: at the mall, where we were delivering our gifts for our Angel Tree person.
9 yo: <GASP> it's Victoria's Secret
me: yup, there it is
9yo: can we go in?
me: <pause> you want to go in and sing that song to them in protest?
9yo: YES!!!
me: not today sweetie, but good work.
