@thewoodbug @milton_damian @KristenBott @autismcrisis @DrMBotha Off the top of my head parts of Springer et al. which are replicated in "PDA Profile of ASD" discourse.
- Need a name which is reflective of difficulties described with it. Hence, Pathological/ extreme is suitable.
@thewoodbug @milton_damian @KristenBott @autismcrisis @DrMBotha - Need to retain "Pathological" descriptor as PDA is widely known as PDA, so it allows common reference point to discuss said issues.
Also keeping initials PDA, means they can keep Panda based products, logos, marketing & PANDA infographic... Image
@thewoodbug @milton_damian @KristenBott @autismcrisis @DrMBotha - PDA is needed to inform research agenda and research findings.
- PDA is needed in practice as a way of describing support needs & a way of allocating resources.
@thewoodbug @milton_damian @KristenBott @autismcrisis @DrMBotha - Argues there are probably subtypes/ subgroups within autistic population, Christie makes this argument to justify viewing PDA as an ASD...
- Stop describing autism as traits, as it trivialises difficulties. Argument is made in PDA Society 2022, for calling PDA a "Profile".
@thewoodbug @milton_damian @KristenBott @autismcrisis @DrMBotha - Autism is not merely difference. PDA is meant to be a highly debilitating thing, which needs bespoke support packages due to difficulties those attributed to PDA present to others, like caregivers & schools.
@thewoodbug @milton_damian @KristenBott @autismcrisis @DrMBotha - Springer et al mention about partial representation, in a way of avoiding autistic persons wishes to not use "Profound Autism". Most autistic persons do not want autism to be divided into subgroups/ subtypes, but this is ignored by "PDA Profile of ASD" proponents...
@thewoodbug @milton_damian @KristenBott @autismcrisis @DrMBotha That is it off the top of my head. I could produce a parody of Springer et al, but parodying from "PDA Profile of ASD" advocates & it would look & sound similar to Springer et al...

This, this, this! Why would anyone in their right mind, wish for PDA to be viewed as a form of autism? Or for its features, like rapid mood changes, impulsivity, lying, bullying harassment, stealing, being "manipulative"; be features used to diagnose autism?
There is no where near enough debate, or consideration, if autistic persons want such features to be associated with autism, or to be used to diagnose autism. Likewise broader debate within the autistic community.
I am trying to contribute to such debate academically in print here:

If you want another reason that referring to PDA as a "Profile" is a more than a tad silly, here is @NICEComms questionning if PDA is a "developmental condition", on page 10 of its review of PDA (NICE) concluded there is no new evidence of significant worth on PDA. Image
Link to document by @NICEComms in question, is below:
nice.org.uk/guidance/CG142….
@NICEComms did not act on requests to update its limited materials on PDA due to lack of evidence & conflicting topic expert views. Is a reason why I view this by PDA Society to not be scientific, not good practice, highly biased partisan research report:

One of my ongoing contributions to UK autism community, is networking & suggesting events happen. For instance two future Critical Autism Studies events at LSBU I am catalyst for are a memorial lecture for Dinah Murray & @Palaceedd inaugural lecture.
I suggested the idea of a PARC memorial lecture for Dinah Murray to Nicki Martin, so hopefully @MxOolong will be doing that sometime soon. I sent the email, that lead to @Palaceedd inaugural lecture being organised.
The recent 2022 PARC Critical Autism Studies conference at @EhuAutism, happened because conversations between me & Nicki Martin. Then subsequently @milton_damian & @Allison66746425

@KatyBenson20 "Both can be problematic, therefore it is also hoped that this guidance will lead to some harmonisation of practice." PDA Society 2022, p1.
@KatyBenson20 "It is intended for practical clinical purposes with the aim of improving outcomes via personalised interventions and support." PDA Society 2022, p1.
@KatyBenson20 You are correct about people loosing control of PDA. Despite this the PDA Society & others seem to be trying their to control PDA though. It is why created this highly biased research report, pretending to be clinical guidance. Sigh.

If you want an example of something I think is "bullshit" about PDA, is that it is a "Profile of ASD". Short thread on why "PDA Profile of ASD" is accurately viewed as an autism subgroup/ subtype/ Disorder.
"A cautionary counterview however (Green et al., 2018) is that the formulation of a PDA ‘diagnosis’ or ‘profile’ (terms often used interchangeably, as in the Stuart et al. paper) contains much more than a simple symptom description,...
... but presupposes a specific personality or developmental identity in the child, linked to a set of management strategies,...

Reading some PDA articles & see comments about risk of bias due to recruiting participants via PDA Society, means risk of confirmation bias, due to participants having preconceived ideas of PDA (as a "Profile of ASD"). "PDA Profile of ASD" seems not to be about being scientific.
"Moreover, there is a possibility that parental reports may also have been affected by pre-existing ideas and understandings of PDA gleaned from the PDA web forums and conferences from which they were recruited." Kildahl et al 2021, p10.
It really is not me, who is the issue with PDA.
