He belongs to Tri-Service family where his father is an Army Veteran and brother is Lt Cdr in Indian Navy.
Gp Capt Varun was born in Kanholi vill. of Rudrapur, UP to Col K P Singh (R) & Smt Uma Singh.
After completing his school from Army Public School, Chandimandir he was selected for NDA, and passed out in 2004 as Officer Cadet. Later he went to Air Force Academy for further training.
He had less interest in extra-curricular activities and intially lacked self-confidence.
"I was very average student in sports and academics who has barely scored first division in 12th class. Even though I was made the discipline perfect in 12th. But I had a passion for Airplanes and Aviation."
He wrote this into a letter to his School Principal in 2021.
His career flourished when he became Flight Lieutenant, and later flying instructor.
He was batch-mate of Group Capt Abhinandan, Vrc.
He had completed an eleven-month course after that of Experimental Test Pilot.
In his career, he mainly operated Jaguars and Tejas.
On 12 Oct 2020 during his sortie in LCA Tejas, the aircraft developed a system failure due to major technical issues when he was flying it at around 10,000 feet. It resulted in a total loss of control. Dispite, he managed to regain control over and safely landed his aircraft.
For this professionalism, on 15 August 2021, President Sh Ram Nath Kovind conferred Grp Capt Varun Singh with the Shaurya Chakra.
When Gp Capt Varun used to be on leave, he loves to spend time with children in the society, used to hear about their ambitions, and motivates them.
He dreamt of living a simple life after his retirement, and had a plan to settle down in his native village and cultivate crops in the farm.
He was living with his wife, son and daughter at Wellington.
On 8th Dec 2021, he was the lone survivor of the Mi-17 helicopter crash in which Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and 12 others lost their lives.
He fought for his life for one week, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries early on 15th Dec.
During childhood he has faced harsh situations and emerged victorious. There were complications during his birth and the doctors had given up as he was a premature baby.
He was born on 17th Dec 1989 in AFCH, Bangalore.

Brig Bhupesh Hada was born on 30 Jun 1970 in Bundi, Rajasthan.
His father Shri Vijay Raj Singh Hada was an educationist and a social worker of repute.
After his schooling, he joined the NDA, and later was passed out from IMA in 1991, and was commissioned into Madras Regiment.
Later he joined the Para Special Forces.
During his 3 decades of distinguished service, he has contributed in various operations like Op Rhino, Orchid, Rakshak, Kargil-Vijay, Parakaram, Falcon and Meghdoot. He has trained extensively with the IAF, Navy, various CAPF and with the armies of friendly foreign countries.
Uttarakhand AAP has named him as the party’s chief ministerial face for the 2022 Uttarakhand Assembly polls.

He was born on 26 Feb, 1969 to Inspector General Satyasaran Kothiyal (R), BSF and Smt. Sushila Kothiyal.
After completing schooling from St. Joseph's Academy, Dehradun and Kendriya Vidyalaya Dehradun, he was graduated from D.A.V.Post Graduate College Dehradun. He then cleared CDS and joined IMA.
He was commissioned as second Lieutenant into 4 GARHWAL RIFLES in 1992.
In 1994, he went for training in the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS).
He was also part of Op Vijay.
In 2001, then Maj Ajay was part of the first team of the Indian Army that successfully summited the Mt Everest in 2001, under the leadership of Brigadier Krishan Kumar AVSM.

On this day in 2017, Maj Anuj Sood was married to Smt Aakriti Sood.
Both were from Army backgrounds.
Anuj's father is a retired Brigadier while Aakriti's father was in Navy.
The two then met at a Holi party for the first time. After watching her, Anuj already knew she was the one. He rushed to his friends and said she is the girl he would marry.
As days went by, the two got close and he finally proposed to her on 9th May 2016, as he went down on one knee with a rose amid the windmills, she gushed and said yes.
After marriage, Maj Anuj had missed some anniversaries, but Akriti had plans to join Anuj at his next posting.
He was an IT Engineer and MBA, left a lucrative job in MNC and opted to follow his dream and joined Indian Army.

Capt Jass was born on 29 Sept 1993 in Ghaziabad to Shri Bhupinder Singh Jass and Smt Dalbir Kaur.
After completing schooling, he did engeering from IIIT Allahabad and MBA for GLA University. He had a good-paying job before MBA, but he choose Indian Army and was selected for IMA.
He was commissioned into Corps of Signals in 2008. But he wanted an adventurous life, so after 3 months of gruelling training, he was inducted in 1 PARA SF.
In 2010, Cap Jass was going to visit home to celebrate the Holi with his family, but fate had decided otherwise.
A 21 yrs old with his two other soldiers, held his post for 72 hours, and killed 300 Chinese soldiers to save Arunachal Pradesh.

Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat was born on 19 August 1941 to Shri Guman Singh Rawat, at vill Baryun of Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. He joined Indian Army on 19 Aug 1960 at the age of 19 years.
A shrine, known as ‘Jaswant Garh’, is situated between Se La and Jang. Indian Army personnel passing by this route pay their respects here.
He is treated as if he is alive, He has received all his promotions in time, and has reached the rank of Honorary Captain as of date.
