The Israeli government deploys surveillance technology to enforce its apartheid regime and colonial control over Palestinians. And as technology advances, the use of surveillance tech as a repressive tool grows.

2022 is one of the deadliest years for Palestinians in the West Bank, and it's no coincidence that there’s also a huge increase in the Israeli military's use of surveillance and drone technology against Palestinians.

This month the Israeli military installed remote-controlled weapons in Al-Aroub refugee camp and Hebron. Since their deployment, residents of the Al-Aroub say the technology deployed tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber tipped bullets multiple times.

Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems developed an armed “search and attack” drone that might be used in the West Bank. Elbit, who supplies the Israeli military with lethal weapons, said this drone can target individuals and even enter homes.

The Israeli military continually tests its surveillance tech on Palestinians. Pegasus, an Israeli spyware that can monitor calls, texts, and location, was first tested on Palestinians. Now, it's used globally.

Israeli surveillance technology also gets help from big tech companies like Google, Amazon, whose cloud services may be used for data collection that can lead to criminalization of Palestinians or to further expansion of illegal settlements.

Big tech companies aren't the only collaborators in Israeli surveillance. In a leaked internal memo, @adl admitted its police training programs between the US and Israel might militarize police and contribute to police violence.

As the Israeli military increases its use of surveillance technology, Palestinians are finding still more ways of countering them. Palestinian youth are taking down security cameras with stones in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Activists are also working on campaigns like Deadly Exchange and #NoTechforApartheid.

Incredibly important piece by @nkulw for @Jewishcurrents.

In the past months, we’ve heard disgusting antisemitic tropes from right-wing celebrities and politicians. If you're Jewish in the US right now, this moment can feel terrifying. Not only do we not accept this—we reject the frame that many politicians use to discuss antisemitism.
Many on the right will deny the reality of what we are seeing, claiming that the right’s unwavering support of Israel is proof that they care about Jewish safety. We know this is false.

This is what the ongoing Nakba looks like. Calls to deport anyone who dissents against the Israeli government go back to the forced expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in 1948. 15,000 Palestinians were expelled since 1967.
Salah was born and raised in Jerusalem, but was only allowed a “residency card.” Now the Israeli government is deporting him permanently for an alleged “breach in loyalty.” The intent behind Israel’s restrictions on Palestinian residency is the expulsion of Palestinians.
We need to see this violence for what it is — ethnic cleansing that is essential to upholding the Israeli government’s apartheid rule over Palestinians. #justiceforsalah
