Interesting tidbit on page 31 of the "Kill Castro" CIA file:
In early 1961, when a plan was being cooked up to take Castro out gangland-style in a hail of bullets, the one guy who "flatly opposed the use of firearms" was Sam Giancana, of all people.

Sam wanted nothing to do with using gunmen to assassinate Castro. Said it would be impossible to find hitmen willing to take that job; too dangerous, too high-profile; too few avenues for escape.

The poison pill -- and even lethal cigars -- would be provided by CIA "doctor" Sidney Gottlieb, Chief of TSD's Chemical Division.
Gottlieb's name is redacted on pages 17 & 30 but un-redacted on others, which is rather odd.
