This is a very good article about mass psychogenic illnesses and how online feeds them through a kind of parasocial validation.

Just past the strictly medical analysis, it’s easy to see how this exact dynamic drives most Current Year ideological hysterics theamericanconservative.com/what-long-covi…
An important feature of these cases is that they primarily affect women. I have written before about the case of Le Roy, NY, which is just one ex but illustrative of the trend.

~10 years ago the cheerleader at a HS in Le Roy starts experiencing sudden onset Tourette’s…
Pretty soon some more cheerleaders get it. Is it some environmental pathogen? Is it a bad batch of hpv vaccine? No one can say. Then the girls are invited on Dr. Drew show on HLN. Twitching. Spasming. After the show airs, cases at the school double. Then quadruple…
A desperate school admin under advisement from a neurologist suggests the girls stop using Facebook. Parents are incensed. To suggest these girls are merely imagining this. Impossible! An offense! And sexist besides!

But ok, they are desperate so eventually they agree to quit FB
By the end of the year, the Tourette’s are completely gone. No one has anyone symptoms. The mysterious illness has been eradicated. A miracle!

It is pretty amazing to watch these clips, knowing now what we know.

Now imagine if such things don’t just manifest as psychosomatic physical symptoms, but the very real stressors of being a teenager, or perhaps being cooped up during a pandemic, mostly mediated through parasocial online relationships, begin to manifest as ideology…
What if the twitching and spasms get sublimated into psychological spasms over say, a certain fentanyl addict dying at the hands of a police officer? What if the pretext is irrelevant, what if the only thing that matters is working yourself up into a state of high moral dudgeon…
…and to have your hysterics validated and confirmed by peers who are worked up in precisely the same way?

And would it surprise you if this was a female dominated mass behavior? And moreso a particular kind of female who wear as a badge of pride their various “mental illnesses”
“Triple masked socialist dog mommy they/them Ukraine flag disabled BLM long Covid sufferer”

Ya don’t say…

Relevant to below, one obvious missing link in the rw culture space is various middle-men orgs that can feed capital to creators. One-to-one, donor to creator patronage works only up to a point. It does not scale. And leaves the problem of how money finds worthy projects... Image
The right has no idea the extent to which culture––from Hollywood all the way down to community theater–– is subsidized by left wing largesse. They don't see the expansive infrastructure of endowments and grants and fellowships, often laundered via academia, that makes culture
The right laughs at some local theater hosting a POC interpretive dance troupe sponsored by the Linda and Eugene Rosenblatt Endowment for the Arts, and it is a joke, but it’s not a waste of money for the Rosenblatts whose political beliefs are instantiated by those performances

Lib apparatchiks dressed up as journos treating the revelations about Twitter’s coverup of the Hunter laptop story exactly how they treated the Hunter laptop story, by pretending like there’s nothing to see. Double rations this month for their loyalty to The Party.
They’re right in the sense that there was nothing sinister about these decisions, no grand coordinated conspiracy, just a bunch of shitlib Resister midwits at the top levels of decision-making enforcing their preferences through vague appeals to “harm” and “safety”
It’s still bad, worse even than some central actor pulling the strings, because it’s much harder to undo. It’s the giant matrix of credentialing and professional networking that selects and grooms for a certain kind of personnel—total HRification of all meritocratic processes…

Tacking into the headwinds facing Musk-Twitter by hanging the banner of Free Speech is going to fail. Free speech is a dead letter in American civic life and has been for some time. The imperatives of safetyism override it at every turn.
Almost nobody of any significance believes in free speech or is willing to carry out its demands, companies like Apple least of all. The screenshot below is a good example of the prevailing attitudes about internet speech in particular Image
At best, free speech as it has been understand during the last half century or so, will have a 2nd life as a quaint feature of aristocratic etiquette, a kind of ethnic tradition carried out by quirky "Americans" but only in private and strictly bounded settings

Reading interesting story in newspaper about recently retired police officer in Idaho who is now under investigation for attending an AmRen conference and could face potential civil rights violations. A lot of different threads intersecting here…
The story was first uncovered in a thread by “socialist dog mom” who documents the officer’s history of Noticing here:
It is all fairly mild, if crude, cop-tier Noticing, mostly just describing the data on violent crime rates through personal anecdote. In any case, I’m not making any kind of commentary on what the guy said. It doesn’t actually matter.

One of my saddest recurring experiences is meeting people who grew up in California in the post-war boom up through about the end of the 80's and how they invariably describe their childhood like a fantasy, almost too good to be believed, even to themselves,
even the libs, who aren't as angry, but have the same wistful look in their eye, like refugees of a country devastated by war or some medieval plague, some cataclysm beyond anyone's control or understanding, and they have this power over you, a kind of pity,
in the knowledge that they have lived through and survived what is eventually coming for the rest of us.

2050: perpetual elections, early voting begins for the next election the moment polls close for the previous one, new batches of ballots coming in every day, counting never completed, winners never declared, candidates in perma limbo pending lawsuits stacked on top of lawsuits
By 2070 all legacy incumbents have died. There are no elected officials at all, no office holders, titles and responsibilities revert to next highest ranking bureaucrat, gov’t operates according to internal legal framework overseen by various ombudsman and committee apparatchiks
The inner party factionalizes, opaque wars of influence are waged in courtrooms across the country until a single Puerto Rican municipal magistrate holds the balance of power, all decisions flowing through this single node…
