1/ #Saturday walking on the Mycenaean Bridge of Kazarma.

The bridge is arched and built according to cyclopean masonry during the LH IIIB period, connecting Tiryns with the region of Epidaurus, while it was used mainly for military purposes to transport chariots.
2/ On the way to the Mycenaean Bridge A there is a representation of the ancient road, as well as the ruins of this.
3/ The Mycenaean Bridge Α'.
4/ Next to the first houses of the village of Arkadikos are the ruins of the double-arched Mycenaean bridge that the locals call Petrogefyri.

1/ Miletus was in ancient times one of the most important cities of Ionia with intense political, commercial, colonial and cultural activity, located under the roof of Didyma Apollo, who was worshiped in one of the most famous oracles of the ancient Greek world. Image
2/Due to its important geographical position on the SW coast of Western Anatolia, opposite Samos and near the mouth of the important Meander River, Miletos attracted interest already in the Chalcolithic Period, constituting a bridge of communication between the Aegean and Anatolia. Image
3/ The initial habitation in Miletus was located in the area of the later classical temple of Athena and goes back to the Late Chalcolithic Period (3500-3200 BC). ➡️ Image

MILETUS THROUGH THE HITTITE TEXTS.
1/ According to the Hittite texts, Ahhiya/Ahhiyawa constituted a single and powerful kingdom, extending over the greater part of the Aegean, with its dominant ruler recognized from time to time as Great King and equal to the Hittite king.
2/ Such was Ahhiyawa's power that she was able to carry out military operations throughout Western Anatolia, but also to maintain an important political, military and commercial bridgehead in the region of Miletus, which is referred to in Hittite texts as Millawata.
3/At the text CTH 147 "Indictment of Madduwata" (15th/14th cent BC),which describes the military involvement of the Achaean warlord Attarisiya in Anatolia,it's implied that the original country ruled by the Hittite vassal king Madduwata was located in the wider region of Miletus.

1/ The presence of the elaborate ship models of Nuraghic Sardinia, indicates the existence of experienced craftsmen who worked in a special way with bronze, as well as a society that was open to the sea, participating in the long-distance trade routes of the time. Image
2/ However, of the more than 120 ship models that have been found in and outside Sardinia, one has made a special impression on me, as it hides a special meaning. At the Sanctuary of Hera Lacinia near Croton of Magna Grecia, a Nuraghic ship was found in an ensemble of offerings. Image
3/ The ship, which dates to the 7th cent BC, did not carry a figurehead, as was customary, but inside the ship are two pairs of oxen –one on each side– that pull a wagon with solid wheels on which rests an unspecified cargo, while at the back of the ship stand two birds (pigeons?). Image

1/Ano Egklianos-about 1450 BC.A large funeral procession leads a local warlord to his final abode. He is buried with all honors in a cist pit grave next to the Mycenaean cemetery of Pylos along with very rich grave goods, the likes of which the Messinian land had never seen before.
2/ But above all he brought his individual weaponry and especially his elaborate long bronze sword with the inlaid gold handle and his gold-hilted dagger, as well as an ivory plaque depicting a griffin on a rocky landscape, unmistakable emblem of Mycenaean power.
3/ The richness of its grave goods is only comparable to the Shaft Graves of Mycenae, demonstrating the importance of the Griffin Warrior for the members of the early Mycenaean elite of Pylos. ➡️

1/ #Sunday excursion to the archaeological site of #Mycenae, at the center of the first Greek-speaking civilization. Sunny morning, ideal for a walk in a sacred ancestral place of which the magnificence of monuments inspires awe even today.
2/Upon entering the site, on the right stands the Grave Circle B, a burial complex of 26 unplundered shaft and cist graves, in which the members of the founding dynasty of Mycenae were buried. They are dated between 1675/1650-1550 BC with the earliest graves bearing poor grave ➡️
➡️ goods and dating back to the Middle Helladic III phase, a period in which certain local elites of mainland are timidly attempting to rise within their communities through the acquisition of agropastoral surpluses and their attempt to participate in the Aegean trade networks.

1/ Three recent genome analyzes were conducted in caves at Theopetra, Sarakenos and Perachora sites. The first two cave sites bear significant and long human activity since the Paleolithic era connected to the rich natural resources of the surrounding area.
2/ Perhaps this was the reason for EBA inhabitation: rich pastures and fertile areas of arable land (Kalambaka Plain- Kopais), while the location in Perachora must have had a fishing character. All three sites are close to important mountain masses, which were heavily forested.
3/ From Perachora come 6 samples (3 men and 3 women) dating to the Early Helladic II phase (4402 cal BP). The analysis of the samples proved that the dead were mainly of Anatolian Neolithic Farmer origin along with a limited participation of Iranian Neolithic-Caucasus HG.
