BREAKING: @EcologyWA adopted three life-saving clean vehicle rules that will put WA on track to slash transportation emissions, put more pollution-free vehicles on the road & deliver air pollution relief to the communities that need it most #EVsSaveLives🎉 sierraclub.org/press-releases…
"Urgency can be a powerful opportunity - it's fitting for the Evergreen State to join California & Vermont in taking bold measures to nurture our environment & plot a trail for the rest of the country to follow" - Wes Stewart, @SierraClubWASt#CleanTransportationForAll Organizer
#DYK Trucks and buses are responsible for 59% of smog & 53% of deadly diesel pollution? These toxic pollutants are able to lodge deep in the lungs. Thank you @EcologyWA for adopting the Heavy-Duty Omnibus Rule that will put more low-pollution trucks on the road! 🚚🤢
Tailpipe pollution is dangerous and a significant contributor to climate change. We need more #EVs on the road in WA to meet our climate goals! We commend @EcologyWA for adopting #CleanCars4WA! #EVsSaveLives☀️

BREAKING: Postal Service Commits to 100 Percent Electric Truck Purchases by 2026 In Response to Public Pressure ⚡️📬 sierraclub.org/press-releases…
"Finally we’re seeing the common-sense decision to move the government’s largest fleet of vehicles to all-electric, a massive win for climate and public health," said @katherinejulia, director of the Sierra Club’s Clean Transportation for All campaign.
"Instead of receiving pollution with their daily mail packages, communities across the US will get the relief of cleaner air. The way we get to a 100% electric fleet matters – these vehicles must be union-built & made with materials from a clean supply chain." @katherinejulia
1/ The Community Reinvestment Act regulates bank financing for marginalized communities.
Here's why we’re calling on federal regulators to incorporate environmental racism and climate change when banks consider where to direct investments. 🧵⤵️ sierraclub.org/articles/2022/…
2/ As the climate crisis intensifies, we've seen how it affects marginalized communities first and worst.
These climate impacts exacerbate centuries of institutionalized discrimination like redlining, or refusing loans, which in turn contributes to subpar infrastructure.
3/ In short, these redlined neighborhoods have a heightened vulnerability to climate-related harms.
As our climate crisis worsens, we must ensure the government protects our most vulnerable communities.
Thankfully, we have laws like the Community Reinvestment Act.
News broke yesterday that drastic changes to federal permitting requirements could be included in must-pass legislation Congress will take up in September. Our statement and a 🧵--> sierraclub.org/press-releases…
Let's be clear: ensuring our communities and our clean air and water are protected is not a trade chip. Should a bill come forward that includes changes that would weaken reviews of impacts to communities & the environment, we'll fight like hell against it.
Right now, Congress must focus on passing the Inflation Reduction Act as soon as possible. This bill includes key investments to tackle the climate crisis, invest in clean energy, create jobs, & safeguard communities. We can't wait any longer for this critical legislation.
ICYMI: We sued @USPS, again. The agency is failing to produce documents in response to a Freedom of Information Act request for records related to its Oshkosh contract for hundreds of thousands of fossil fuel trucks. sierraclub.org/press-releases…
"These trucks will impact the local air quality and climate-warming greenhouse gas emissions in almost every neighborhood across America." - @eksax, Managing Attorney with the Sierra Club
"The USPS has a duty to be fully transparent about the Oshkosh contract and make the public aware why they’ve chosen to double down on a new fleet that’s made of majority polluting fossil fuel trucks." - @eksax
Today, the Sierra Club launched a first-of-its-kind tool that allows folks to calculate their family’s energy burden. sierraclub.org/energy-burden-… Thread 🧵⤵️
Energy burden is the total percentage of a family’s income spent on energy bills. 6% of income is considered the maximum affordable-amount for energy bills, but the average energy burden for low-income households is 8.6%. sierraclub.org/press-releases…
High energy burdens can threaten a household’s ability to pay for energy, forcing tough choices between paying energy bills and buying food, medicine, or other essentials. sierraclub.org/articles/2021/…

2/ "The science is clear – we must protect 30% of all lands and waters in this country if we are going to take on the intersecting challenges of the climate crisis, biodiversity crisis, and nature equity gap."
-Kirin Kennedy, Sierra Club’s Director for People and Lands Policy
3/ "Key to achieving that is the diverse, locally driven conservation projects the America the Beautiful Challenge will support."
