~~We are 15 weeks into the NFL season~~

I hope Jalen Hurts is okay, the Bengals are good, the Bucs are not, the Vikings are exactly average, and the Vaunted Packers Defense is running out of time Image
Quarterback passing efficiency on early and late downs

Of QBs still playing (ie not Jimmy G or Mariota), Trevor Lawrence is No. 4 in EPA/dropback on early downs! (and somehow Tannehill is still No. 5 with a practice squad roster) Image
Recent tiers movement:

-- Stock down: Titans, Colts, Seahawks, Bucs, Browns offense
-- Stock up: Lions, 49ers, Browns defense Image
The rate at which each team takes a 1st & 10 and turns it into a new set of downs.

The Chiefs' offense is still chugging along Image
One year the Chiefs will have a good defense. But not this year Image
How teams have behaved on 4th downs this season

Every year it's the same group of teams at the top of this (Eagles, Bills, Lions, Packers, Browns, Ravens, and Doug Pederson) Image
The Bengals are slingin' it! Image
32 of 32 NFL are more efficient passing than rushing on early downs Image
2 independent measures of how effective each team's pass protection has been:

-- ESPN: player tracking data
-- PFF: watching the tape Image
All trench measures from ESPN and PFF

We deserve a Cowboys-Eagles playoff game with both teams at full strength Image
Pass protection ratings in one summary table with very carefully chosen weights Image
For some reason the Lions' pass protection has become an item of national interest so here is that I guess Image
Here is how *the players on the offensive line* (i.e., not counting TE, RB, etc) have graded in *true pass sets* only Image
QB efficiency (EPA/play) versus #tape Image
Falcons' RBs here are a good demonstration of RYOE being largely about run blocking / team factors

I wonder if Hall / Herbert would have kept this up if they had stayed healthy

Overlapping circles of White/Fournette are funny given that people are clamoring for White carries Image
Insert caveats about RYOE but here's RYOE and % of carries that exceeded expected rushing yards Image
Betting markets do not seem especially concerned about the long-term ramifications of Jalen Hurts' injury

The Jaguars and Lions have made an appearance! Image
Point differential through week 15

There's basically 6 teams that markets see as having a real shot at a Super Bowl, and not surprisingly, they're the 6 teams with the best point differential

(the 11-3 Vikings are not one of those teams) Image

Inspired by @greerreNFL, decided to compare these ratings to other measures. Here's a thread
Let's look at how each of the components of The Ringer's ratings relate to CPOE.

CPOE is mostly a proxy for accuracy, so we'd expect it to be most strongly related to accuracy.

And that's what we see ✔️ Image
Which components are most strongly related to results on the field (as measured by EPA per play)?

Again, accuracy jumps out, but also decision making and pocket presence Image

~~Week 9 thread~~

Exactly half of this year's regular season games have been played (136 of 272).

Through half the season, I'd say the biggest surprises are the Dolphins (good) and Rams (bad), with honorable mentions to the Browns & Seahawks Image
The Patriots' defense got a huge boost from playing the Colts, Seattle's defense continues to recover from an awful start, and the Chiefs' offense might be good Image
The Eagles' offense is coming very close to overtaking the Chiefs and Bills in terms of earning 1st downs on a given series

I am very surprised at how high the Bengals and Browns (and Jaguars!) are on here Image

~~ Where teams sit after 7 weeks of the 2022 season~~

The poor Jaguars are extremely unlucky to be 2-5 right now
-- RIP 49ers defense
-- The Bengals' offense has come to life
-- Miami's offense has died (some of this is backup QBs in past weeks)
-- The Giants/Seahawks might be real NFL teams this year
-- What is going on with the Lions??
Things you hate to see:

Only the Panthers have a worse passing offense on 3rd/4th downs than the Packers

--Week 4 NFL Tiers--

The question taking America by storm: who is the 2nd-best team in the NFC?
Passing game efficiency on early downs and late downs

SEA >> DEN and DET >> LA are both things that are happening here
How often each offense takes a 1st & 10 and turns it into a new 1st down (or touchdown)

The struggling Chiefs' offense is "only" No. 3!

Game-changing defensive holding call on Seattle that negates a stop on 3rd & 12 and leads to a Rams touchdown.

I don't know about this one
No DPI on 4th & 6 here
You'll never see a more obvious pass interference than this.

No call.
