There is this 1️⃣: “The infrastructure to charge electric vehicles is meanwhile still lacking in the U.S. and many other parts of the world, making owning an EV still a challenge for many types of consumers.”
wsj.com/articles/toyot…
There is is also this: 2️⃣ “Mr. Toyoda has argued that fully electric models aren’t the only way to reduce carbon emissions, saying hybrid vehicles sold in large volumes can also deliver a short-term impact. “It’s about what can be done now,” ie time to market.
And then, I would suggest, 3️⃣ the change in OE cost to the customer which is quite a hurdle without aid. And finally, 4️⃣ the fact that once you have lost skills and your supply chain it is hard to row back. This the caution.
These highlight the difficulty of the decision process. It also shows the need for collaborations & a holistic view of the economic & infra model to be taken, so that decisions can be made in coordinated way; at least inside political blocks. It gets tougher beyond borders! 🍃
Finally, it shows that we should also be pragmatic & focus on the easy first & on the now —what can be done now— rather than force solutions early into areas that are hard & will need flexibility. It may well be that such an urge ultimately leads to delays & wrong options taken!
This may imply that not all sectors are dealt the same way but a weighting framework is applied and explained to the broader public. The environment is a holistic system that needs the best approach as #System⚙️ level, not on each individual component; at least not right away 🍃
No #SilverBullet, practically and also for best overall outcome across all sectors.
