From a purely political-economic point of view, the less state spending finds it way into the consumption of the working-class, that is, into the reproduction of labor-power as a whole, the more unpaid labor-time is realized as surplus value.
Hence, military spending.
CPI, for example, does not factor in military spending. But why not? Though a tomahawk missile is not anything anyone puts in their "basket of goods"; nevertheless, we pay for it.
Labor pays for everything---even the products we never consume.
Here's what CPI calculates, first and foremost. Nowhere in it does it mention the state, the single largest expense in any household's budget. The state is a direct expression of inflation, as a generative outcome of declining labor-values' detachment from prices.
Look at the overlay of CPI-W with defense spending:

Now take it one step further: why should the average American care whether their own corrupt government controls the world? That's because it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. It's not our fight. Never was.
Our struggle is against the state, not a country. The state is *the* capitalist par excellence. The confrontation resembles class struggle only insomuch as we confront the state as if we were confronting the workday itself: at the point of consuming free-time as our own...
Marx was very clear about this. If the state is now "the capitalist," we can only defeat it the way you could defeat "the capitalist."
Reformulated, the statement reads: "If the labourer consumes his disposable time for himself, he robs the state."
America has every advantage on the world market. They have military bases everywhere. People literally pay the United States to use their dollar while financing the U.S.'s DoD. They get the better end of every trade deal and have veto power in every group they're part of
MAGA people, ala Bernie Bros, want a "budget that benefits everyday Americans." Well, tough shit. The budget is not for us. The budget is for CAPITAL.
Moreover, the budget is VIOLENCE. Horrible violence perpetrated by the state against its own citizens.
The capitalist does not give two shits about the labor value content in its newly acquired profits. The original formula of M-C-M' no longer applies. It is now M-M'. So long as the sum of dollars is greater than what is put in, they "realize" a profit. But not so fast!
Two dollars doesn't always, if ever, contain twice the exchange-value of one dollar.
In fact, the opposite appears to be true.
The dollar measure of profit = the total magnitude of paid labor-time expended given the development of the productive forces...
🧵How The Fascists (Mostly) Already Accomplished What The Proletariat Were Supposed To (According To The Communist Manifesto):
When SYRIZA took power in 2015, expectations were high for the "neo-Marxian" party to solve the problems of the Greek working class. But when they took state power, they found out their "radical" Keynesian policy tools had already been worn down to the nub by their predecessors.
The likes of Mario Draghi had already beaten them to the loot and could crush them under not only a common currency but because production in the EU was carried out much like the Soviet Union: as if there was only one, unified economy.
