It’s now beyond question:
Federal & state govt public health policies are *designed* to infect & re-infect Australians with SARS-CoV-2 *despite* overwhelming evidence that this will kill and disable many, and *without* any prospect of achieving meaningful hybrid immunity.
🧵. . .
This abandonment of basic public health can no longer be hidden. It is in plain sight, and politicians who continue to push this approach will ultimately be held to account for the deaths and disability they have caused and continue to cause. @Mon4Kooyong
Politicians know what they are doing is wrong. There is no longer any plausible deniability. Nevertheless they continue to pursue personal and political ambition and satisfy their egos *at any cost*.
Many of our public health advisers have been complicit, and some have actively championed the misinformation campaigns that have led most people to believe COVID is a harmless disease.
Sadly there have been a small number of doctors hungry for media attention who are willing to support and amplify misinformation and downplay the seriousness or COVID.
The "COVID is mild" propaganda has been highly effective, but at some point people will realise that they have been conned. @CrabbBrendan@NatarshaBelling
It's not just politicians, Australia's advisory group on vaccines (ATAGI) has been a willing participant in the campaign to prevent people from accessing vaccines & boosters that would protect them from the worst harm from COVID.
The latest statements from national cabinet don't even make sense any more. A high school biology student would be able to spot the logical and scientific flaws.
A few mainstream media outlets are starting to report on the reality of COVID in Australia, but there's a long way to go before people will re-assess the views they've formed based on widespread misinformation over the last 12+ months.
Australia is headed in the same direction as Canada and the UK, and it's a grim future unless we change course. thetyee.ca/Analysis/2022/…
The good news is that COVID is avoidable. It can be removed from the air with ventilation + simple and proven technologies such as HEPA filters and N95 masks, and emerging solutions such as UV sterilisation.
We just have to have the will to use them.
There are some settings where the urgency of providing clean air is obvious. *Nobody* should be placed in an environment with a high risk of infection, especially kids.
I’m glad we’re seeing more mainstream media reporting on Long COVID and talking about the devastating consequences of a condition that's affecting (so far) half a million Australians.
The only way to avoid Long COVID is to avoid getting infected or re-infected. I hope the media focuses next on what people and governments can do to reduce spread of COVID.
COVID is an airborne virus, so the best defences are those that (a) prevent infectious people from spreading it (PCR testing and isolation, incl financial support to do both), and (b) clean the air using some combination of ventilation, HEPA filters, UV sterilisation and masks.
Ten things the federal govt must do NOW to reduce COVID transmission in Australia - a summary of my submission to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Long COVID.
🧵. . .
1. Education campaign
Most Australians have no idea about the long-term risks of COVID, or about how it spreads.
Informing people about risks, airborne transmission and importance of ventilation and masks will empower them to make better choices.
No more of the sleep-inducing, half-hearted efforts featuring the Deputy CMO. We need impactful campaigns like this video from @JohnSnowProject
The federal govt is holding a Parliamentary Inquiry into Long Covid and Repeated Infection.
It's an opportunity to tell the government that it needs to do more to protect Australians from repeated COVID infection and risk of Long COVID.
Anyone can make a submission. . .
🧵
You don't need to have had COVID to respond. We are all at ⬆️ risk of risk of cardiovascular, neurological, immunological and other conditions from COVID.
COVID is now the leading cause of death in Australia, and an estimated half a million Australians have Long COVID.

The deadline is 18 Nov. The more submissions, the more likely we are to see action. This could be your only opportunity to be heard.
@BradHazzard@NSWHealth Helpful messages delivered:
👍 Pandemic is not over
👍 Need to reduce transmission
👍 Need 3 or 4 doses to be fully vaccinated
👍 Reinfection can occur
👍 Antivirals are available, but eligibility needs to be widened
👍 Wearing a mask is a good idea
👍 RATs can give false -ve
Unhelpful messages:
👎 Singular focus on acute phase of infection, no mention of long-term effects of COVID, Long COVID or damage to immune system
👎 Will not mandate masks or increase efforts to enforce existing limited mandates (eg. on public transport) as would be "unpopular"
To put that in perspective, the current death rate is around 50 people per day, and increasing. This makes COVID the leading cause of death, ahead of heart disease and cancer, and puts us on track to have 20,000 people die from COVID this year.
2/ Son is due to start year six on Monday at a state primary school in Brisbane. We've had a close look at the QLD govt’s Back to School plan and talked to the principal about how it will be implemented.
