It’s a myth that men protect and provide for women. Let’s talk about provide. More women are now university educated than men. Girls & women do better across the board in all subjects at school. The only things stopping women out-earning men are misogynist workplaces, the gender
pay gap, and child-rearing, where women provide reproductive labour for men. ‘But what about the road builders? What about the farmers?’. Firstly, rich men do not build roads. Poor men and women do. This is about CLASS. The working class have always worked. Men and women.
‘But men do the dangerous jobs!’ yes, it’s almost like these workplaces are incredibly misogynistic and unwelcoming towards women. It must just be that women choose the low paying jobs, nothing to do with environment or the fact they’re expected to look after children.
Let’s talk about protect. Protect women from who? Other women? No. And they don’t protect us at all. A lot of men refuse to fully engage with patriarchy, refuse to look their privilege in the eye, refuse to learn and unlearn. How can you protect if you won’t engage with the
subject matter? You won’t even call your friends out. A man who was supposed to ‘protect’ me did nothing to stop his friends harassing me for 9 months. How do you protect if you won’t even stop what’s going on in your back yard? I was the protector. I didn’t out him,
I protected his career. Women protect men by physically, practically, and emotionally caring for them. Women also protect women in the exact same ways. But men do not protect and provide when they won’t even look the enemy in the eye and do nothing to fight inequality.
