These moves stand as 'part of a pattern' of deprioritising and worsening conditions for asylum seekers in line with the tenets of the #HostileEnvironment policies, which intentionally make life in the UK 'unbearable'

Further accusations have been levelled at UK troops sent to support border security in Poland and Lithuania, who have allegedly been complicit in border abuses of refugees there. They are said to have helped build fences to prevent entry.

They decided to go ahead with supporting border efforts in Lithuania DESPITE being officially aware of the country's use of pushbacks, which leave refugees stranded without shelter, food, or water.

Médecins Sans Frontières have described the UK's denial of being aware of these abuse as "bewildering", suggesting the UK is "deliberately turning a blind eye" to the situation.
