The 20+ most underappreciated/unrecognized power centers (literally) for the prosecution of Russia's war on Ukraine.

These are the workhorses of πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΊπŸšŠlogistics & enable the delivery of more death to Ukraine than airbases in Engels or Kursh.

We'll never see πŸ›°οΈ images posted. 😀
/2 Each Traction Station has at least two (2) high voltage step down transformers about the size of a Russian tank or MLRS, which go figure can't move or be hidden.

The giant tank full of oil mounted above them guarantees a destructive fire, more certain than oil/fuel tanks.
/3 TBH I deprioritized the southern Luhansk route, given the route via Luhansk (city) is not electric rail & crossings of the Siever Donetsk River are compromised.

However, everything, incl heavy Dragon's Teeth & shells enter via Likhovskoy - Ivanivka route.

These will be added
/4 On the Rostov - Taganrog - Donetsk route, AFU recently #HIMARSTime'd the traction station at Ilovaisk.

Good chances Mandrikine & Krynychna traction stations were torched prior, but I have no confirmation of anyπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦πŸš€πŸ’₯

IMHO this was a good sign AFU now appreciates their value.
/5 On the southern axis, the rail connection from Kerch is not electrified, however Sebastopol to Melitopol/Novo Bohdanivka is.

We know Orcs use rail heavily to stealπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦grains & Ag equip

There's little indication RuAF is using limited diesel electrics from Dzhankoi to Melitopol.
/6 In the northeast, the value of the Belgorad link is of historical note.

Arguably Valuyki is a "has been" also.

I repeatedly see the non-electrified Valuyki - Starobilsk line pushed as some "darkhorse" πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί logistics superweapon bc somebody looked at rail maps.

IMHO it is not.
7/ Then there is the Liski - Rossosh - Millerovo realignment completed in 2016 as a major priority from Putin & The Kremlin to get around previous transits of Ukrainian territory near Chertkovo.

Frankly, I'm tired of beating the AFU Must Absolutely Disable These Assets Drum.
8/ Finally, there's none of my skin in this game. I'm safe in America and this war has no impact on me whatsoever, while I could give 2 f*cks about military warporn.

It's not for me to decide what isπŸ’₯but it is clear assets I OSINT/identify enable untold misery upon Ukrainians.
9/ These traction stations & electric transformers in πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί I beat the drum endlessly, need to be addressed, taken seriously & prioritized above all others in Russia.

I have no reach, so please copy link to the 1st tweet & share 🧡widely with UA influencers.

The simplistic solution to the relentless Russian logistics is to send ATACMS to hit deeper.

The unfortunate reality, my government and its calculus will not untie AFU's hands and allow US provided weaponry to hit targets inside Russia enabling this war to continue.
Related & worth criticism

On price cap...

"But the second goal, is one that concerns Americans & countries all around the world, and that is, we want to keep Russian oil flowing, because Russia is a significant supplier to the markets."

~Janet Yellen

These are 2 nuances within US policy worthy of critique, while not diminishing or attacking the overwhelming commitment & support we are providing to Ukraine, in a war having little effect on my day-to-day, but directly impacting Ukrainians immeasurably.

Both tie AFU's hands.

Foretold by @NATO about πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί attacks on πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦'s energy sector...

"The physical destruction of expensive & bulk power equipment such as large power transformers (LPT) are not only expensive to replace but can take months to procure, manufacture, transport and install."

"An attack on the energy grid thus can cause cascading effects across all sectors of critical infrastructure that requires electric power with potentially devasting effects on modern economic activity, national security and well-being of society."

"Deliberate explosive demolition of transformer substations for military purposes in order to reduce the defense capacity of Ukrainian military units and depriving people in [Ukraine] of the possibility to [receive & send digital communications]."

Burn me if you want, but how much impact has the fellas & American influencers with their unsophisticated memes, platitudes & calls for ATACMS had on the actual battlefield to Ukraine’s benefit?

Point me to towards real, tangible weapons systems delivery or Ru targets destroyed.
Show me where 1 less internet Vatnik bonked or aspirational platitude issued has benefited Ukraine and saved one Ukrainian from needless death or misery of Russian origin.

Or show me were more US or Eastern European aid/military support increased due to fellas pressure.

Positive interest in this article.

What is hopefully made clear & point I have been hammering...

LPT - Large Power Transformers Orcs target in πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ are large, expensive, not easily replaced, have long lead times & global manufacturing is limited, esp. in UA friendly nations.
/1
While I was monitoring Russian destruction of LPTs & other activities Orcs engaged in to control the power grid in occupied territories, I did not document thoroughly as Orc activity around cutting off ZNPP focused mainly on damaging the transmission lines outside Enerhodar.
/2 Image
But this changed after Orcs "succeeded" in forcing ZNPP's operators to put all reactors into "cold shutdown" within a week of IAEA inspectors arriving.

πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί attacks on UA's Grid began shortly after in mid SEPT, including strikes at South Ukraine NPP, Kryvyi Rih & Kakhovka dam.

Russian attacks on Ukraine's electric infrastructure have been focused primary on the large transformers at power plants & the 750kV & 330 & 220kV hubs.

There are ~600 in Ukraine, while there are 1000s of smaller 150/35kV & 110/35kV they don't target & I have not counted.
1/ Image
Russia targets transformers specifically for several reasons
1. power transmission chokepoints
2. at power stations, each power generating unit requires a signal/frequency from the grid to operate, no signal it "trips off"
3. cheap drones destroy multi-mil $$$ equipment
2/ Image
Each transformer is the size of a school bus weighing 100s of tons, Ukraine's policy has been to not publicize specifics of transformers destroyed, but occasionally, we can verify via satellite imagery given the smoke plume is gigantic.

Good example of why generators are not a sustainable option…

4x the energy content needs to be sent to Ukraine, then 75% is wasted as heat that can’t even be used producing 25% as electricity.

Need to restore/protect grid and import electricity directly from PL.
Excluding the Hungarian 750kV connection as #Orban is a dick, there is the PL 750kV.

This should be 2,000 MW import capacity.

Repair & protect with everything available.

Replaces need for 400,000 five (5) kW generators like in the photo.
This should help explain how valuable & critical the large substation transformers are Russia is destroying.

If transformers were a navy asset, they are like a battleship. Protect at all costs even though they only do 1 one thing, but are irreplaceable in that role.
