Has there been a strategic change by AFU recently?

I believe so... scorched earth of grid assets in the OTs is now acceptable.

What most fail to recognize, OIM uses the same color for 330kv & 500kV (fuchsia), so higher vulnerability network interfaces are easily missed.

From St. Petersburg to Lake Baikal there are no other assets more critical to Russia's Industrial Energy Military Complex than 500kV Large Power Transformers (LPTs) of its industrial electricity network.

We know 🇺🇦 long range One-Way-Attack (OWA) drones torch them, nicely.

I’ll bite!

EW=RADAR to non-military types

Look at this post from December 2022, when Kursk AFB jet fuel storage tanks were the target for 🇺🇦

16 mo later LPTs are HVTs? I have no reservations for scorched earth in 🇷🇺out 250km from 🇺🇦, w/ systematic destruction of 🇷🇺grid the backbone to this ‘drone sanctions’ enforced DMZ.

Value of this approach has been dismissed by so called ‘experts’ since day 1, unless it was explicitly military or fuel🎯

How big & how much power do LPTs "transform" in large transmission hubs found in Russia?

Enough that you need 3 massive single phase LPTs, plus a redundant set to convert 750kv to 500kV or 500kV to 330kV or 220kV.

You can build to do "3x" through a pair of 3-phase for 220->110. What is a "phase"? Those are the 3 big bundles of cables you see on transmission towers, each carrying a third of the AC power as it cycles 180 degrees from the others. R/G/W above.

Most 0rc 500/220kV stations have at least 1 additional 1-phase LPT on site, some 2. BLACK wire. Image

It is still not clear that Ukrainian leaders understand that russia's electric network is primarily there to support its oil & gas production, with civilian use low on the list of priorities.

Major grid hub transformers are infinitely more valuable than 10-40k barrel fuel tanks. Image So much for claims 0rcs can't produce transformers for their export nuclear power plants.

To date, ~3 transformers of the size made at Siemens Voronezh have burned by UA, while none of largest size made at Toshiba Power Machines in St. Petersburg.

With all 6 #ZNPP reactors in ‘cold shutdown’, basically super safe storage, if you don’t think Russians will destroy all other parts of the #Zaporizhzhia #Nuclear Power Plant, & likely do serious damage to the reactor buildings too, you may be living in an alternative universe. The only thing @iaeaorg achieved, was convincing @energoatom_ua operators, already under extreme duress from RU AF & @RosatomGlobal terrorists, to put remaining reactors into ‘cold shutdown’.

I’m so glad US-based @TheStudyofWar & @AEI’s Critical Threats Project ‘map creators’ are so skilled & proficient in detailing everything and anything in Ukraine that they snatch from OpenStreetMap @openstreetmap, but lack the effing ability to detail anything in Russia!! Image I spent no less than 12 hours the last 2 days detailing 100s of 🇺🇦infrastructure assets that are completely useless due to destruction of the Kakhovka reservoir… and if I’m lucky, 50 people will see it. The Tupase "oil depot" is a critical transloading facility on the Black Sea for crude oil and refined oil products.

Why not strike the FRTs - Floating Roof Tanks?

These are the workhorses of 🇷🇺🚊logistics & enable the delivery of more death to Ukraine than airbases in Engels or Kursh.

The giant tank full of oil mounted above them guarantees a destructive fire, more certain than oil/fuel tanks.
