The #GeorgeSantos scandal continues to spin out of control and is getting worse. Here’s why. 🧵
First, the severity of the fraud is breathtaking. This isn’t a little resume embellishment. It’s making up his entire life story, the centerpiece of his campaign. This isn’t exaggerating about some obscure point — the whole life is a lie.
Second, every step he has taken since the NYT story broke has made the problem worse. It’s exactly what not to do.
His initial response was to attack the NYTimes, while doing nothing to confront the allegations made. This extends the scandal’s life by passing up a chance to end it.
Then, he admits part of his story was a lie, while defending other parts without proof. This extends the scandal another day, leading reporters to dig deeper into what he did not admit to. Guarantees another round of stories.
He goes unprepared on Tucker Carlson’s show, only to have Tulai Gabbard smack him around. Extends the story another day. Now his reactions are stories, prolonging the scandal.
His answers about where he suddenly got “million dollar contracts” to fund his House campaign strain all credibility. The guy couldn’t pay small credit card bills just a few years ago.
Now he says he got these contracts in MAY of 2022, while a candidate and just in time for him to “loan” the funds to his campaign.
How much “work” was he doing for these contracts while in the midst of an uphill House campaign in a D district? I have questions.
I’m not going to tweet out any free advice for how he should handle this. I think he’s a crook and a clown and I want to see him out as fast as possible to limit the damage to my party.
Nobody smart in the GOP will defend him because he has shown terrible judgment both before the NYT story AND after. Response is so bad nobody will believe he’s reached the end of it. Risk too high there will be more bombs to drop.
A few who sensationalize to monetize will defend him because…we all know why. It would be more surprising if they didn’t. But the majority won’t stick their necks out for this guy.
In EVERY district there are MANY Republicans who can be a good Congressman. In no district do we have to resort to nominating and defending some liar. He’s not the best we can do in that district.

The “conservative” — and decent — thing to do is to side with the families of those murdered at Sandy Hook, and condemn Alex Jones for lying and slandering the families.
There is no gray area here. No “both sides.” Walk with me. 🧵
The thirst of some in politics to gain attention for themselves is insatiable. Social contagion leads people to say and do outrageous things to get attention, followers, “engagement,” and ultimately money. We see this today around Alex Jones and Sandy Hook.
In December 2012, 26 people were murdered by a lunatic (whose name I shall not use) at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.
Conservatives condemn this loss of life, and lift up the families and victims in prayer.
Turns out the flack behind "CalExit," the fake California "secession" movement, was backed by the Russian FSB after all. Good reporting from the @sacbee_news
After serving as presidential campaign spox for @tedcruz in 2016, I compiled the open source intel on Russian active measures in the US, including the "hack-leak" and "amplify" tracks. The later was aimed at amplifying social tensions in the US.
Russian measures were sometimes direct, and other times used proxies (real people helping them), or sock puppets (fake people, online personas, controlled by FSB operatives). "Amplify" measures focus on exacerbating racial, religious and regional tensions.
I just spent a week in Poland with many of the country’s political and business leaders.
On matters of history and security, the Poles “get it” more than many others on the continent, and it shows in how they’re dealing with Russia, Ukraine, and their own history. 🧵
The Poles have a refreshing level of moral clarity. They survived the Nazis, and the Russians. They’re not ambiguous about how they feel about both.
A proud statue of Reagan stands opposite the US embassy.
I walked through the intersection of John Paul and Solidarity Avenues.
A Freedom Lounge displays portraits of Reagan and Thatcher within the former headquarters of the Polish Communist Party.
A statue of France’s DeGaulle stands outside the same building.
These are people who have lived the history others only read about.
Is the recall election “rigged?” Certainly Gavin Newsom and the Democrats have played games with the process to their advantage, such as moving up the election because they felt it would benefit Newsom politically. But voter fraud? Where’s the evidence? (THREAD)
There’s this case of some “passed out man” found with 300 ballots. That’s under investigation. However, unless it’s part of some massively larger secret conspiracy, this is a one off. apnews.com/article/busine…
I don’t know what tomorrow’s results will be, but just because the election is held by mail does not mean it’s fraudulent, or any more likely to be fraudulent than an election with in-person voting.
I’ve been active in the conservative movement for 32 years, and I signed up for my #COVID19 vaccine as soon as I could. I got the Moderna shot one week ago. Here’s why I chose to get vaccinated and I encourage you to as well (THREAD).
Diseases are dangerous and vaccines are safe, within any reasonable definition of those words. Specifically, COVID-19 is dangerous and the 3 vaccines approved in the US are safe.
Those who spread theories against vaccines rely on a lot of logical fallacies, twisted definitions, and abuse of statistics. I’ve been in communications for more than 20 years and I recognize these, and reject them. I prefer to be evidence based.
So in the @GavinNewsom recall, today's a big day. Proving all Newsom's spin downplaying the recall was total nonsense, he now admits it's real and has legs by launching a pushback campaign today. (THREAD)
Unfortunately, the Newsom campaign people picked a terrible day to launch their pushback campaign, as a new poll shows 58.3% of Californians want a new governor. One doesn't get to that number without a lot more than Republicans.
In fact, half or more of Californians supporting the recall are not Republicans. This isn't surprising given Newsom's flubbed COVID response and its economic consequences hurt people of all political backgrounds. (Like power outages did in 2003, See: FORMER Gov. Gray Davis)
