Discussions about Twitter use made me go down my follow list, and damn... there were a lot of people and companies who died or moved on in the last ten years.
We used to model certain aspects of our company after GGT
GGT had all the cool gear ya needed right outside Ft. Bragg, and organized training around the country, and served folks beer while they shopped.
We tried the beer thing, but our productivity went down too much (even if morale went up)
Main lesson their flourishing and floundering taught me is that it doesn't matter if people think you're cool AF, if your books don't balance.
If you spend money to keep up appearances instead of providing value = bankruptcy.
Really helped that it was sold to an investment group and headed up by a pal right before it went out of business for good. Meant I got to take a peek behind the curtains before it went away for good.
Inv group got sold a buncha opportunities in the bush, liabilities in hand

I remember years ago I did the "fake it til you make it" thing and asked a famous tactical gear company at SHOT if they'd be interested in hooking it up with pants for photoshoots, and they politely declined
Later I walked by the booth and they were still making fun of me
"Bro, you see that guy trying to scam pants out of us? LOL"
"Yeah bro, we sell pants to [redacted] bro, pretty sure we don't need your help"
Anyway, I learned that day, that sometimes you just need to keep disrespectful offers to yourself and just pay up like everyone else.
What's funny is that now that I can afford to buy the wardrobe I need for photoshoots, and have a direct line to the CEO and CMO of said company... I would never think of calling them asking for free shit. How embarrassing!
I bring this story up today, finishing up SHOT reg
Dang, it’s crazy seeing the person behind popular Twitter pop-intelligentsia accounts and the dude is genetic bottom of the barrel caricature of a soyjack.
I’m a lot more used to seeing the dude being a schizo account or anime girl PFP being a jacked dude with a stable career and personal relationships
One guy I knew was a prolific schizo/shit/fed poster who was edgy as fuck online, but in real life was a church choir boy who got married before he could drink LOL.
Wild to see.
Problem is when people who are legitimately mentally unstable/disabled take the jokes for real
It's fascinating how seemingly simple things, like lifting weights, shooting guns, throwing a punch, actually has a ton of nuance to it if you wanna be able to do it right
For lifting, I think everyone generally puts 2 plates on the bench as a standard, and for marksmanship it's being able to group with a service pistol at 25 yards.
I think it's useful for me to remember how daunting both seemed to me at first. Took years to get there.
I remember in college, my republican friends in my frat assumed that because they voted a certain way they were magically imbibed with martial skills...
But the little jewish guy in the house who trained martial arts was the actual best fighter LOL
Aside from the gas station laser getting packing taped to a muzzle, it’s actually a super common misconception that lasers are used for precision targeting thanks to movies and vidya games.
Lasers travel in straight lines absent atmospheric dispersion, bullets travel in arcs.
The practical aspect of laser zeroing theory when it comes to small arms, crew served, or mounted weapons is oft discussed. All the former Army SMU dudes who shot people with all kinds of guns and platforms with all kinds of lasers have the best low down on how it’s done.
Being high intelligence just means you can process information quickly, doesn't mean you can process it correctly. *In general* smart people seem to come to the right answer more often than dumb people, but information hazards ala advertising, cult brainwashing, is a danger
Human cognition has a huge flaw in that it's easy to throw an idea into there, but takes a lot more energy to genuinely consider it, and root out false assertions.
Why talking to liars, braggarts, and idiots is so unpleasant: you gotta constantly filter out their BS.
Smart people are actually easier to indoctrinate into cults which seems counter intuitive at first.
Intelligence is related to openness, which makes smart people susceptible to brainwashing, esp in the first stage of extreme positive affirmation.
We cannot hope to ever carry every sling on the market.
Right now we carry the Spiritus Systems sling, which is light, padded, easy to adjust (great for force on force) and the Edgar Sherman Design sling which is light, has onboard stowage.
Both are quick adjust 2 points
I'm old enough to remember when units getting shoveled into Afg/Irq were buying all kinds of crazy shit last minute like 3 point slings, but after 2 decades people figured out, "in general" 2 point quick adjust is the way to roll 95% of the time
