MY SCREENWRITING EXPERIENCE. Not advice. I’m still figuring this shit out, too. Here’s my experience. With contests, I was trapped in perpetual Quarterfinals & Semifinals Hell for a few years. Not good enough to get me where I need to be. 🧵 #screenwriting#amwriting
Something had to change about my writing. About two years ago, I figured it out. Find that deep flaw about myself that most terrifies me. I made that the central theme of my work going forward. Even though this is pretty basic shit, it worked. 🧵 #screenwriting#amwriting
They all had authentic dramatic irony at the heart of the story, because it came from a real place. I’d just face my own fear through the eyes of different people in different situations, doing the same dumb shit, until they finally figure it out. 🧵 #screenwriting#amwriting
So how did I find this flaw? Simple. It’s the one thing no one knows that I’m afraid/ashamed of. No one. NO ONE. So going forward, even if the reader doesn’t connect with my story, they’ll at least feel like it comes from a real place. 🧵 #screenwriting#amwriting
I have no idea if everyone has a flaw like that. If you do, it’s my experience that it can really improve the emotional impact of your writing. Hope this helps at least one struggling writer crack this impossible code. Not advice. 🧵 #screenwriting#amwriting
