Top 7 four-letter words to help you FAIL HARD at growing your following online:
FART - Follow All Rules Tediously

First, you must abide by the rules in this thread if you want to succeed at failing.

If you don't FART, you won't go nowhere.

But if you do FART, your audience-building dreams will never come true.
BIFF - Believe In False Facts Frequently

There are only two Fs in this acronym. Agree?

Good. You're on the right track.

Someone online posted this, so it must be true.

Like, truly true. Truly truly true.
STUN - Stick To Uninteresting Narratives

If you want your content to flop, better stay away from anything of interest to your audience.

Don't tweet about their:
• Frustrations
• Challenges
• Hopes
• Fears
• Desires

And certainly never give knowledge of any value.
FLOP - Forget Listening, Over-Promote

Well, there is one narrative you can stick with if you want to fail: Yourself.

Instead of focusing on your audience, focus on the person in the mirror.

Write for yourself and no one else. That'll work.
THUG - Take it Halfway, Underperform Greatly

Make sure you never complete an idea or get real with your audience.

Don't invest. Don't try. Don't even post every day.

Just do the most basic level of effort so that your occasional post is half-assed. #ThugLyfe
SLED - Show Little Engagement, Disappoint

If somehow you do get comments, don't reply to any of them.

We're failing hard here and we don't want anyone to get the wrong idea like we might care what they have to say.

This one's important.
FLEE - Forget Lasting Engagement Entirely

Honestly, if you SLED well, you may as well FLEE.

If you forget about them entirely, anyone who follows you won't stick around to see what else you have to say.

That's what we call lose-lose.
SNOT - Spend No-time On Teaching

To grow at a negative rate, definitely don't teach people anything useful.

They might like you if you helped them out for free.

And we simply can't have that.

Make sure your content calendar is covered in SNOT.
LOOP - Limit Outreach Opportunities to Passive

Never DM people if your hope is to completely fail on social media.

Only wait for people to message you.

Why?

Well, you tried to JEER (Just Expect Everyone to Respond) and 100% didn't.

So why bother messaging anyone?
There you have it.

To completely fail at audience building, memorize these important acronyms:

• FART
• BIFF
• STUN
• FLOP
• THUG
• SLED
• FLEE
• SNOT
• LOOP
In case English isn't your first language and this was confusing: it's supposed to be sarcastic and funny.

How to build your audience without feeling like you’re BEGGING for attention.

6 tips to get the growth you deserve (without getting cringe in the process):
Most new creators struggle because they:
• Aren’t sure what type of content their audience wants
• Are worried about coming across as spammy or desperate
• Unwilling to promote themselves or their products

These feelings can stop you from taking any meaningful action.
To create content that resonates with your audience without feeling lost,

🔸 Get to know your audience.

Find ways to ask more questions. Interact regularly.

Dig deep into their challenges and understand where they need help.

Then figure out how you can be of service.

I had a breakthrough with AI this week. Really, one on top of another.

It was the kind of moment that leaves you stunned for second.

I ran back through the ideas in my head multiple times.

Tested them on the screen.

I felt sick to my stomach.

My discovery. It... worked:
I'd been wanting to release a mini-course on using AI to assist with writing for a while.

And while building the course, a saw a sudden alignment between
• AI tools,
• writing frameworks
• tweet/LI post structures
• fiction techniques
• the way people want to operate...
Even though it feels like magic, I'm calling it AI Content Reactor.

Reactor, as in, building a writing system that is also a power station.

It doesn't just help you create one thing faster. It powers every aspect of creation.

A lot of people post about audience building.

Some posts help. And some forever change you.

Here are 7 threads from this year I keep coming back to:

(from my best-of-the-best bookmarks in 2022)
1/ Systems:
@thejustinwelsh shows you how small and simple systems and habits can compound growth over time

& save you from overwhelm and confusion every week when you sit down to write.
@thejustinwelsh 2/ Formatting:

Don't write big-bulky-boring paragraphs that consume too much brain energy of your readers.

Here are some formats by me @thatroblennon to make your writing consume less brain energy to read.

Most ideas you read are totally forgettable.

But then there's people like Alex Hormozi, whose ideas seem insanely valuable.

The difference isn't the quality of thinking. It's how it's framed:

(How to transform your ideas into $$$—) Image
The secret is packaging your knowledge as frameworks.

Here's how:

🔸A framework is...

...a structured approach or set of guidelines to solve a problem or achieve a goal.

Take something complex, and simplify it into something that's easy to remember and apply.
🔸 Frameworks are ownable

Frameworks have interesting and unique names that suggest real value.

This allows you to own the idea. Associate it with your personal brand.

Rather than forgettable advice, this is YOUR advice.

Last night I published a promo tweet for my newsletter.

Tbh, I wasn't happy with the copywriting.

But — I've also not tweeted about the newsletter at all quite a bit.

So I sent it anyway.

(~Quick mindset rant~)
This morning, we have ~30 new people signed up.

At 1,854, that's a ~1.5% increase.

From one tweet.

To one of my most valuable (and thusfar under-invested-in) resources as a solopreneur.
Sometimes you need to draw a line, and when you're done, call it done.

You need to move on and get to the next task.

It's the right amount of time/effort.

You'll do a better job next time.

Getting used to this ugly, imperfect world can be a super power for you.
