MPD confirms Pennsylvania arrest, says it's for the murder of the #Idaho4 students.
MPD confirms he resides in Pullman and is a WSU grad student.
MPD says they will be limited in info released until he appears in court.
MPD chief now giving some stats and some recap background.
Continuing to give information previously released.
"These murders have shaken our community, and no arrest will bring back our young students. However, we believe justice will come through the criminal justice system."
Fry, the MPD chief, says the work is not done. Is now lauding his agency.
"I recognize the frustation in the lack of information released..." claims giving too much info may have hindered the investigation or tipped off the suspect.
Fry now further lauding his agency and other law enforcement agencies.
Fry thanking the community, and kindness of folks locally.
Fry closes by "thanking our media partners for their help."
Bill Thompson, Latah Co. prosecutor says "it's sad to be here but happy to be here at the same time."
Says Bryan Kohlberger charged with four counts of murder, as well as for breaking into his home.
Thompson says the probable cause affidavit is sealed until Kohlberger is back in Idaho. "At that time, we expect that affidavit will be available to you so you can share the true facts with all your readers and your watchers..."
Thompson says Kohlberger has a residence in Pullman and is a WSU student. Scheduled to be back in court in PA next Tuesday. Public defender appointed.
He can waive extradition, or the state can initiate proceedings if he decides not to waive that right.
Thompson now talking about process.
Thompson emphasizes the primary source of information will be court records. "We are limited by what we are allowed by the courts to say outside the courtroom."
Thompson says this isn't the end, but a new beginning. Asks that media outlets tell public to provide any info on Kohlberger to the MPD tipline. They are still investigating.
Bottom line: Bryan Kohlberger has been arrested in Pennsylvania. He's a WSU student and lives in Pullman. He's charged with the murders of the four Idaho students and few additional details will be available until he's back in Idaho.
Lt. Kedrick Wills of ISP: "These tragic murders took four vibrant lives from our community. We can't bring them back. The best thing we can do... is to bring this to a successful conclusion."
Wills also lauding his law enforcement agencies and other agencies.
UI President Scott Green: "Today's news of arrest is a welcome one. It's a relief to our community." Thanks Gov. Little for financial support for campus security. Thanks ISP. "We never lost faith this case would be solved" and thanks MPD and FBI.
Green: "This crime has nevertheless left a mark on our community, our university and our state. With time we will heal. We will move forward together, and we will remain Vandal strong."
MPD chief Fry back at the podium. He will take questions, but again stresses factual info is under seal.
First question was going to go to (WSU) Evergreen or UI Argonaut - though it's break and they were absent.
Fry says community members should still be viligent and aware of their surroundings.
*vigilant

That's the end of the news conference.

Just about time for an @Ada_County commission open business meeting. We will see a reconsideration of Raul Labrador's appointment the @CDHidaho's Board of Health and another candidate, Dr. Sky Blue put forth. Our story Friday boisedev.com/news/2021/01/1…
And here's the live link. Meeting just started.
Dr. Blue is in attendance in person. Former Rep. Labrador is not.
NEW: Long statement from @boisemayor@laurenmclean at the top of the Boise City Council meeting on the CDH meeting. She spoke extemporaneously for several minutes: 1/
"To start, I have a couple things I need to say.
Earlier this evening, about half an hour at this point, I called the director of CDH that he close the meeting immediately that was happening at Central District Health". 2/
"They were making decisions that need to be made that were being pushed down to the local level.
What we saw instead was a mob of people that showed up to disrupt the people making the very decisions we need to protect us."
3/
"My 12 year old son is home alone right now and there are protestors banging outside the door," @LachiondoD said tearfully. She is at the office and said she is leaving the meeting to rush home.
Russ Duke with CDH is also leaving the call. He is going to talk to staff and @BoisePD. This is stunning
I don't weigh in. Good God I don't weigh in. But harassing a 12-year-old is not OK. It's very clear Commissioner Lachiondo is at work from the video. I'm shaken to see that. I'm hoping the youngster is OK.
A thread about local news and police. I’m always astonished by how much police speak makes it into the copy of local news papers, scripts and websites.
I don’t often cover crime in my current role (by choice), but used to do it a lot.
“Officer-involved” is a term you often hear. As in, “there’s been an officer-involved shooting.” What does this 3-word phrase mean? Does it mean an officer was shot? Does it mean an officer shot someone? Does it mean there’s a shooting and an officer was just there? Who can say!
It’s common in police news releases. But it shouldn’t be common in journalism.
Poynter: “It removes the actors from their actions, thereby obscuring attributions of responsibility.” poynter.org/reporting-edit…
Good size crowd here for the @boisepublib hearing. LOTS of chairs put out. Still a few minutes until this begins. Public testimony will be heard. #BoiseDev
@boisepublib As far as I'm aware, the Idaho Freedom Foundation, Friends of Boise Public Library and Boise Working Together all worked to get people to this meeting. I'd estimate a little more than 100 folks here - just a rough estimate.
@boisepublib Jade Riley on an advisory vote: “The city is not allowed on its own accord to place something on the ballot.”
