Rifleman Mohan Singh, Vir Chakra (Posth), 11 RAJRIF
Fell in Sri Lanka this day in 1989.
Here's his story ..
2
#ObituaryOfTheDay
This day in 1989, Rifleman Mohan Singh was deployed in Sri Lanka as part of his battalion, 11 Rajputana Rifles.
The battalion was in receipt of intelligence regarding frequent move of militants in Tanniyuttu town in their area of responsibility.
3
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Accordingly, they had planned an ambush to finish these militants.
Rifleman Mohan Singh was entrusted with the LMG of the ambush platoon.
4
#ObituaryOfTheDay
However, since the ambush site was located in a built up area, surprise was lost and the militants came to know of presence of own troops.
At approx 1220Hr, they suddenly opened up heavy fire on the 11 Raj Rif boys from well sited positions.
5
#ObituaryOfTheDay
The ambush party themselves had been ambushed.
However, these men from Rajputana were not ones to be cowed down by this minor hitch.
They hit back. Hard.
Amongst them, Mohan Singh too responded immediately & brought down heavy, effective fire on the militants. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
6
#ObituaryOfTheDay
The brave Rajputs were at a huge disadvantage tactically, but stubbornly held on.
During the firefight, Mohan Singh noticed a group of militants rushing to the neighbouring section in order to snatch weapons from the injured personnel.
7
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Unmindful of risk to his own life and with indomitable courage, Mohan came out of his covered position and CHARGED towards the militants with his LMG and brought down heavy fire upon them, inflicting many casualties, while saving his injured comrades' lives.
8
#ObituaryOfTheDay
The startled militants fired back, but had to beat a hasty retreat due to this one man charge.
In the process, however, Rifleman Mohan Singh was hit and fell down, dead.

Maj Sushil Aima, Kirti Chakra (Posth)
This 32yr old son of Mother India went down in a blaze of glory this day in 1999.
Here's his story ..
2
#ObituaryOfTheDay
He was to proceed on leave the next day, to celebrate his 5th wedding anniversary with his family on 02 Aug. Having made necessary arrangements, just as he was to hit bed on night of 31 Jul, intelligence was received about the presence of a large group of ..
3
#ObituaryOfTheDay
.. foreign terrorists on a hill nearby.
Leave plans cast aside, Maj Sushil Aima set off towards an obscure hill feature in Poonch, leading the operation.
He knew his leave plans would need to be reworked.
4
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Wedding anniversary could be celebrated later, but the scum who had dared desecrate the sacred soil of the Motherland had to be dealt with right now. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
5
#ObituaryOfTheDay
What followed was a deadly encounter, lasting seven hours.
Such was the engagement that it even degenerated into a brutal hand to hand fight at one point of time.
6
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Needless to say, the Ganpats of 17 RR (Maratha LI), led by their equally ferocious Kashmiri Pandit leader, Maj Aima, soon made their presence felt.
The Pakistani terrorists suffered heavy losses, Maj Sushil Aima personally accounting for two of them.
7
#ObituaryOfTheDay
However, towards the closing stages of the encounter, Sushil received a gunshot on his left temple.
Despite the serious injury, he dispatched the terrorist who had shot at him, with his pistol.
8
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Not finished yet, he covered the evacuation of an injured soldier of his, despite his own grievous injury.
The soldier, injured in a grenade blast, managed to crawl to safety under the cover provided by his company commander.
9
#ObituaryOfTheDay
It was only after ensuring safety of that boy of his, that Maj Sushil Aima breathed his last; his Kashmiri Pandit blood mixing with the lands that his people had been driven away from, just about a decade ago.
10
#ObituaryOfTheDay
He died on the eve of his fifth wedding anniversary.
This gentle, bespectacled man had fought the last battle of his life like a Tiger, leading from the front. When he left, he did so with the satisfaction and pride at having attained a soldier's death.
11
#ObituaryOfTheDay
Even on his deathbed, his concern for his troops was paramount.
Meanwhile, just about a thousand kilometres away, in Palam Vihar, Gurgaon, his family, waiting for his arrival on leave, received the news of his martyrdom instead.
12

Almost the entire neighbourhood turned up for his funeral. The local govt named a nearby road after him.
His then nine month old son must have commenced a career of his own now.
13
#ObituaryOfTheDay
His wife received the Kirti Chakra that her husband had earned a day before their 5th anniversary.

Sharing some thoughts on the recent moves by the Arakan Army on the Bangladesh-Myanmar Border.
Let's see how this one goes ..
Let me just begin with this bombastic video of Bangladesh Army veterans threatening to capture Kolkata within four days!
Very bombastic, I'd say .. especially when their own generation got the blunt end of the stick from Pakistanis in 1970-71 and couldn't do anything about that!
Unfortunately for these geriatric idiots, while they were turned towards Kolkata, right behind them came the Arakan Army which established control over Bangladesh-Myanmar border
As always, these erstwhile East Pakistanis got totally surprised from behind(PS: Puns Fully Intended!)
:THREAD:
Folks, sharing some thoughts on the current state of affairs in Bangladesh.
Let's see how this thread goes ..
First and foremost, let us call it for what it is currently - An attempt at re-establishing East Pakistan.
Yup, that's what it is. Pakistan attempting to return to its erstwhile colony via proxy.
Come to think of it, conditions in East Bengal today are quite similar to what they were in 1970-71. 1. Interim Govt in place 2. Politically elected Govt not allowed to function 3. Widespread and blatant atrocities against minorities and those that the current 'govt' doesn't like
One man, unarmed, changed entire narrative of 26/11 by ensuring one Paaki gets caught alive.
Else it would be 'RSS ki Saazish'

26/11 - NEVER Forget
#MumbaiTerroAttack
Carrying on from the tweets above, sharing some news / media from the dastardly #MumbaiTerrorAttack of 26 Nov 2008 perpetrated by Pakistan.
:THREAD:
Folks, sharing some thoughts on Big Tech that has become an integral part of our daily lives as individuals as well as collectively.
The trigger was the massive outage of Microsoft devices some weeks ago. Have been having some thoughts since then.
Let's see how it goes..
First and foremost, here is a link to the outage of Microsoft devices due to some issue with CrowdStrike, for those who might have forgotten it. economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/india/moc…
So many parts of our lives came to a halt, because someone somewhere screwed up!
It was a major news headline for atleast a couple of days.
And then, we moved on once things were back in order, dismissing this as a temporary hitch in our day-to-day existence.
:THREAD:
This tweet landed on my TL some time back.
More than the event itself, it was the mention of Bangladesh Army that got me thinking.
Sharing a chain of thoughts.
Still unstructured. Let's see how it goes ..
First thing I did was to go to the Wikipedia page of Bangladesh Army to confirm a hunch.
And true to my expectations, I saw the size of Bangladesh Army to be 160,000 troops!
To put things in context and why I found it amusing, I will just give a comparison with the British and the German Armies, sourced from Wikipedia itself.
British Army = Approx 79,000 Active Duty personnel
German Army = 63,000 personnel
Last night just as I was about to hit bed, this short thread landed up on my TL.
My first reaction was that this was inevitable!
Sharing some thoughts on this latest development.
Let's see how it goes ..
First and foremost, I will share this video of Dacca University, taken in March 1971, aired by NBC News 10 months later.
THIS is how the endgame of 1971 commenced - with the West Pakistani occupiers killing students and professors ..
MUST watch the video and hear the commentary
It seems almost like a Deja Vu all over again, doesn't it?
Given that the levels of violence for the time being aren't of similar nature, but students clashing with armed wings of the state is a dire reminded of what happened not very long ago ..
