While Scotland waits as Westminster decides whether to stop @ScotGovFM from passing legislation that will impact the whole of the UK (allowing anyone over 16 to change their legal sex, #GRRBill), we direct your eyes to the next ideological bill to be passed through Holyrood 1/
The phrase you'll be hearing constantly will be "Conversion Therapy" & you need to remember this is yet another attempt at corrupting language. The definition is so broad that if you dare to ask if the girl claiming she's a boy is absolutely sure, that's conversion therapy 2/
The "End Conversion Therapy" petition was started by @ECTScotland (anonymous little group of @scottishgreens leaning activists) who conveniently conflate pressure on LGB people to abandon their sexual orientation with explorative therapy into people questioning their "gender" 3/
Remember, they're intentionally blurring the lines between LGB (sexuality) & T (gender identity) while claiming both are fixed & can't be changed. Here's a transcript of the "evidence session" with @ECTScotland bearing that in mind 4/ parliament.scot/chamber-and-co…
Words to strike fear into any rational, enlightened Scot, particularly one that has just experienced the horror of the passing of the #GRRBill - the introduction of legislation by the end of 2023 (we have visions of more panicky midnight hearings just before Xmas). 5/
And today, the legal opinion of a KC on the proposed legislation was released in Scottish Legal News. Spoiler alert: he's not very impressed at all 6/ scottishlegal.com/articles/kc-fi…
But we ask when reading about this topic, think about anyone who is approaching a counsellor or therapist for help with a "gender" issue, wouldn't you expect, want, someone who will ask questions to understand the landscape of the discomfort? 8/
If you read the Cass Review (a review into the treatment of children by NHS England with gender discomfort) you will know that the discomfort is frequently accompanied by anxiety, perhaps history of abuse, perhaps a diagnosis of autism. 9/ cass.independent-review.uk/about-the-revi…
Shouldn't a therapist see the whole story & not overshadow any existing conditions with a declaration by a little girl that she's actually a boy? In the same way we don't affirm beliefs of people with anorexia (a discomfort with their body) that they're fat & need to lose weight,
our counsellors must be allowed to explore claims by patients that they're the "wrong" sex, particularly before entry to a medical pathway. This proposed legislation is intended to stop that, to criminalise the process. We just want #ExplorativeTherapy to be legal, don't you? 11/

Imagine Scotland had a high bar to define a thing, say haggis, but England decided to redefine haggis to be anything that identified as haggis (like pasties) but demanded to be allowed into Scotland & for pasties to be labelled haggis, @scottishgreens would be annoyed, right? 1/
Well @MaggieChapman is getting annoyed that @ScottishGreens & @SP_EHRCJ (Maggie is Deputy Convener) want to drop the bar so anyone can be legally defined as female, a level much lower than the rest of the UK, Westminster have noticed & said "wait one cotton picking minute". 2/ twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
So we have Maggie ranting about rights of pasties while screwing over the native haggises. Maggie's joined by big pastie fans @stonewalluk, claiming some imaginary overwhelming pastie mandate (well of course pasties will be happy, but anyone asked haggises how they feel?)
By now if you follow this account you'll know that the Gender Recognition Reform Bill is hovering on the brink of being passed in Scotland (vote on 21st Dec). If you live elsewhere in the UK it will still impact you, we hope you realise? #NoToSelfID 1/
Currently in UK you need a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria, to be over 18 & to have lived 'in your acquired gender' for 2 years. But...what happens when a 16yr old Scot goes down south, with the ink still fresh on their birth certificate where M has been changed to F? 2/
This trans-identifying male has no medical diagnosis, and may have worn the odd skirt for 3 months. They expect to access female spaces & activities despite the bar being much higher in RUK. In the same way, an English student may spend their first term in Scottish uni 3/
@StephenFlynnSNP, new Westminster SNP leader, has just been interviewed on Radio Scotland. He supports the contentious #GRRBill he says because of this story. The story of a female who declared themselves a man but died from a female-specific cancer 1/ archive.vn/G9lev
It's a fascinating story to use as justification for self ID, but probably not in the way Mr Flynn thinks. Self ID allows you to change your certificated sex, including the single sex/gender marker on their NHS record. If you change this from F to M & you won't 2/ #NoToSelfID
receive the calls for screening you need, such as for cervical screening, a worrying inflexibility in the NHS which relies on individuals accepting the need for sex-based healthcare & the inability to identify out of it.
A 2nd issue with the story is that the MPs relative 3/
We all have 8 MSPs to represent us & all 8 will be voting on the Gender Recognitions Reform Bill on 21st Dec. Please do contact all of your MSPs and tell them #WomenSayNo
Find you 8 MSPs here, start with the @ScottishLabour MSPs 2/ parliament.scot/msps/current-a…
"@ScottishLabour support for gender recognition law 'very fragile' as final Holyrood vote looms. @AnasSarwar's party still intends to support the Bill later this month, but no decision has been reached and MSPs want the Government to accept amendments." 3/
In the absence of a Xmas miracle the Gender Recognition Reform Bill will pass on 21st Dec. However, if MSPs of ALL parties felt insufficient protections are in place for women & children voted against the Bill, we could get that miracle. Our main hopes lay with @ScottishLabour 1/
The single @ScottishLabour MSP on the committee dealing with the #GRRBill (@GlasgowPam) voted for the Bill at Stage 1. Labour then whipped their MSPs to vote for the Bill at Stage 2. With most of their amendments rejected at Stage 2, we're hoping @AnasSarwar will 2/ #NoToSelfID
For Women Scotland attended a day of debating & discussion recently, specifically about education & schools, the single issue on which a range of varied individuals & groups agreed. Today, the latest in a series of attacks, a @ScottishGreens MSP & the @Humanists_UK claim that 1/
just by being in a room with people many of us may disagree with, the now age-old claim that feminists are not actually feminists but in fact right-wing anti-abortion anti-abortion evangelicals. This is getting very tired & desperate. What is more alarming is that a rainbow 2/
bedecked MSP, that sits on the @SP_EHRCJ committee that is handling the Gender Recognition Reform Bill, is claiming that such a gathering of diverse attendees was actually a 'festival of hate'. Hate! Let that sink in. 3/
