Hollywood California in 1970. The end of Hollywood’s golden era. Tarantino adds a million vintage accents to movie (radio/tv ads, movie trailers, locales, googie signage, music, clothing) to make it totally immersive. It is a perfect film.

World War II in the Pacific Theater (Guadalcanal). The soldiers in the movie undergo incredible physical and emotional turmoil. Visually, it is the most compelling and interesting war movie ever made. Almost feels too intense/real at some points.

Late Maya civilization just before the arrival of the Spanish in Mexico. Extremely ambitious and incredible detailed movie. Minor details in the scenes of the city and its aristocracy are IMPORTANT. Possibly the best movie ever made!

Newest movie on the list. It is a story of betrayal and vengeance in medieval Europe. It was panned by a lot of critics but was very good. Excellent fighting scenes and beautifully costumed/shot

One of my personal favorites. The film follows the James Gang through the countryside of Missouri in the days following the Civil War. It is an atypical western but might be the best in the genre.

Still the best movie that was made as one, continuous shot. It is a dreamlike wander through the Winter Palace of St. Petersburg in the late days of its aristocracy. Resplendent military uniforms and gowns. Absolutely beautiful.
