Things we need to know about Damar Hamlin’s collapse & treatment (A THREAD)

Why is commotio cordis the most talked about diagnosis ?

It’s extremely rare, 99.9% of the time it involves blunt force with a projectile (baseball, hockey puck, etc). There’s seemingly no evidence that this has happened in football.

How long did it take for medical personnel to check Damar Hamlin’s pulse & restart his heart through CPR?

That can tell us a lot about Damar’s potential brain function

ESPN’s Outlines The Lines just had cardiologists on. Their first diagnosis of Damar Hamlin was Commotio Cordis, mentioning even though theres only 15 cases a year & there may by no record of that in football. CC almost always caused by blunt force trauma of projectiles like ⚾️🏒
