Last night, I protested the Moms for Liberty meeting that featured guest speaker Arkansas State Senator Dan Sullivan. He talked about potential education bills, and all I can say is Y I K E S, a thread 🧵 #arpx

First, they want a merit-based affirmative action bill because Dan and his ilk are against looking for diversity when hiring.

Second, they want a public recording bill in regards to recording public officials (I do not know details yet).

Third, they want to target free speech zones on college campuses as it is currently indoors only. I do not know whether this would be a positive or negative bill yet.

Fourth, they talked about school choice. Apparently no one knows anything about what SHS is going to do, but they know they want it. They don't know where th money will come from, but it will take 3-5 yrs to implement and 🚨 yikes 🚨 wants to give religious schools tax dollars.

Fifth, they want educators held accountable for what they post on social media, which screams legislative overreach and takes away educators' First Amendment rights.

Sixth, they want a bill that makes ethics violations made by teachers public, not just the end report.

Seventh, they are reworking Bathroom Bills and more anti-trans legislation including forced outings of students to their parents and Dan mentioned being against closeted trans kids.

Eighth, more anti-trans bullshit: they HATE pronouns so much they don't want students using different pronouns or names at school without parental consent (again, forced outings). Again, legislative overreach and pretty dystopian control of private lives.

Ninth, Dan explicitly said he wanted to take obscenity rights away from librarians so that they are subject to criminal offenses (FELONIES) for distributing "obscene" material; but, he doesn't know what's considered harmful, lol.

Tenth, they want to have complete control over schools. They don't want masks or social distancing implemented in schools unless bills passed by the legislature say they can implement them. What happened to small government?

What's clear is the Arkansas GOP are out of their minds, wanting to legislate the classroom based on a cultural boogey-man that doesn't exist. Their egos are stroked by far-right hate groups like Moms for Liberty, and they need to be called out on it.

2023 appears to be the year the Arkansas legislature will wage a war on LGBTQIA+ lives, education, truth, and free speech. Democracy is at stake. We've gotta wake up and start organizing NOW to thwart the worst of the worst. This is NOT a drill. #arpx

Edit 1: On point 3, Sullivan wants free speech zones gone but both inside and out, the whole campus, would be free speech.

Edit 2: On point 5, Sullivan wants public employees "not held accountable" for what they say online. For example, a public employee could say "jail the gays" or something else crazy like that over on Facebook and not face repercussions.
