On the promised and still not working IT systems to track asylum seekers
Perhaps unrelated to the specific incidents, but the whole system is apparently being run on govt need for outrage not competence
Everybody suffers. Including our govt, in terms of lost soft power, when this is true for most things
Do we want an outrage farm to appease rebels and ever more desperately needed RW voters, or do we want good governance?
Do we want functional services, or do we want manufactured hate?
With a deafening media chorus, on immigration, race, LGBTQ folk, Brexit, Covid, healthcare

Perhaps we have to view it as cover for corruption, erosion of our rights, service devastation and some rampant profiteering?
While folk caught in crosshairs get threatened, hurt, or die stuck in ambulances. Not what you see? bylinetimes.com/2021/04/01/rac…
Time to stand up for our rights not a c.£140m failure to fix immigration systems. Throughput and operation is the issue, not processing location
So much bad faith comms and at the same time this incompetence
When hate is the point, what is the point of our current government?
It didn't end well before and it won't again. It is replay of Brexit with eyes on eroding more rights for all of us, not just for migrants

If they wanted it fixed they could have fixed it. Some time in the last 12+ years. Intentional chaos? theguardian.com/global-develop…
Less than 12 months before in full election mode (as if they ever stop)

What exactly can be fixed now, if even any will to? More breaking

Strikes, social care, faith in teachers, trust in nurses, independence of media, parliamentary guardrails
Conduct IMHO is undemocratic and also deeply unethical, but at least we are all kept entertained by sideshows
2020 hindsight about impact is a thing our govt are La La Laing about, but we don't have to. It is obvious now
We can do so much better and a lot of their voter base know that
That US meeting was their embassy in 2018, this is Davies on the lack of pre-Brexit sectoral impact assessments

Quoted is evidence of real versus spun impact on our automotive sector
I'm dedicating this thread to a very good man who died from cancer just yesterday. He lived in the US not here, but always looked out for others. I will not stop highlighting the opposite from our current government
Some more context in this thread focussed on Minister for Exiting EU

Including his off book meetings with Singham (then Legatum) facilitated by Mark Littlewood (Director IEA)

Recent video here on Truss budget
Some evidence of an even more concerning trajectory, still about deregulation. Privatisation of our state schools, sale to private equity

A very long and heartfelt thread Image
Enormously profitable prospect

Race used again, like JHB did, to discredit teachers and transfer schools to private hands, based on 'Free Speech' concerns. It sounds like the conspiracies we try to combat, but so does this

Jenkyns, Ex-Education Minister Image
Here is another thread (with input from many lawyers and trade experts) on the #REUL - Retained EU Law Bill

Please note the characters who are shouting loudest to avoid a delay, with rushed progress we may be carelessly signing more rights away
My response to one such call. It was probably not hard to intuit from whom
One last tweet, on the Jenkyns quote to confirm source and also timing

With a reminder of conduct when the last but one PM was busy resigning

July 8th. Such a stable government
@MichaelRosenYes noting the quote was apparently directly targeting him

This is my local freeport. The news of this has been slow to surface. Do read
All governments who have flagship policies invest huge resources in the quashing of bad news about impact

This is a thread on the link between freeports and planned deregulation

Not alarmist hyperbole, it is gain for investors, removing our protections
"At what cost?" is a question this government seem not to ask enough

Perhaps a #GeneralElection? Sunak is unpopular, Johnson a lawless and lazy disaster, what about democracy?
It would be good to hear Johnson supporter arguments, or than he is a great campaigner, what does he now stand for? He presided over one of the most enthusiastic, but dishonest campaigns on our electoral history

Here from US Embassy here in 2018
More to back up that big assertion.

When power is the point instead of the best prospects for our nation

This is the effect that @ruthbenghiat warns us about in the article in replies
Governments erode household resilience against global shocks

2008, bailouts, austerity, Brexit, Covid, Ukraine war, inflation, now austerity and service erosion

Then police inevitable dissent and have to blame others for it
More perspective from @FT while noting the attacks on unions are fundamentally undemocratic and partner the attempts to repeal our Human Rights Act, withdraw from the #ECHR and further curb our worker protections with the #REUL

Quick question. Is video here playing ok for you? Skips back for me. But it is very much pertinent to the point
It happens via browser too. It cycles back at about the 10s mark and if I manually move forward no sound then
Always avoiding the tin foil hat ideas, but as far as I know folk didn't get to the bottom of governance for this lot

Ofc it could also be blunt tool ML redaction of any video about covid from the new fella in charge here

Any insight to offer @EinsteinsAttic?

This needs an update. Bannon is out on license and sent this to Brazilians
Of course these countries differ wildly, but he is an equal rights disruptor. What has been upshot?
