“Since I moved here in 1999, we have twice given private practice the chance to provide consistent burn care to the state of Mississippi,” said Dr. Lineaweaver. “Having seen it fail completely twice, I think the responsibility must come back to the state.” mississippifreepress.org/30243/with-no-…
When a burn patient comes to Neshoba General Hospital in Mississippi, "first, we hope there’s a bed available at Augusta, (Ga.). Then we have to figure out how we get the patient there."
Years ago, the Mississippi House passed legislation that would have established a burn center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Meanwhile, statewide, about 54% of Mississippi's rural hospitals are in danger of closing; medical leaders say the State's refusal to expand Medicaid to more working Mississippians is heavily to blame, causing hospitals to swallow millions in unpaid care. mississippifreepress.org/30094/mississi…

After making switch from Vyvanse (which worked really well) to Adderall (less well), BlueCross BlueShield (which sucks up 25% of my earnings because health insurance is a scam) is now refusing to cover Adderall because there's a generic shortage and only brand name is available.
I can't afford to dish out $200 a month for a brand label on the same thing I was getting for $25 a month.
I'm so damn sick of wasting hours of my life (and money and time) dealing with this country's ridiculous, scammy health care system that always puts profits over people.
I'm not a hammer and sickle guy, but if anything could make me one, it'd be this country's atrocious health insurance scam industry that all of us who aren't incredibly wealthy are forced to participate in just to have a chance at good health.
NEW: Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch is urging the Supreme Court not to review Mississippi's Jim Crow felony disenfranchisement law, telling the justices that the State “purged" any racist "taint" from the 1890 law with changes in the 1950s-1960s. mississippifreepress.org/30289/mississi…
The case, Harness v. Watson, is over Section 241 of the Mississippi Constitution, which white-supremacist leaders adopted in 1890 in an attempt to disenfranchise Black residents for life.
Despite making up just 38% of Mississippi's population, Black Mississippians make up 61% of those who have had their voting rights taken away due to disenfranchising crimes; 39% are white.
Despite being the Blackest state in the nation, no Black candidate has won statewide office in Mississippi since the State adopted its Jim Crow constitution in 1890.
The U.S. Supreme Court could soon hear a case over one of the 1890 Jim Crow voting laws that remains in effect and disproportionately disenfranchises thousands of Black Mississippians today: the State's felony disenfranchisement law. mississippifreepress.org/28800/mississi…
NEW: With 54% of Mississippi's hospitals in danger of closing, medical leaders warned state lawmakers of a "looming disaster" unless they expand Medicaid.
“The lack of access to healthcare for many Mississippians is currently a crisis, not a new crisis, but one that has been fermenting... As hospitals close across Mississippi, access to life-saving medical care becomes a real threat to all Mississippi." mississippifreepress.org/30094/mississi…
MSMA: “There is a sizable gap that exists for working Mississippians who cannot afford private insurance, yet whose income is too much to qualify for Mississippi Medicaid. ... [H]ospitals are required to treat them regardless of their inability to pay." mississippifreepress.org/30094/mississi…
Also, excluding Jennifer Hudson too??? Are you kidding me???
Look, I love Taylor Swift. She is an *amazing* songwriter and a very good, solid vocalist. Rihanna and Carrie Underwood have both made some wonderful music.
But on a list of vocalists, I don't understand including them and excluding the likes of Céline and J Hud. 🤪
NEW: A lawsuit says Mississippi's new legislative maps “illegally dilute the voting strength of Black Mississippians.”
Mississippi is 38% Black, making it the Blackest state, but only 23% of the State Senate and 31% of the State House are Black. mississippifreepress.org/29900/state-di…
Despite being a 38% Black state, the Mississippi Senate has just 12 Black members out of a 52-member body.
In the Mississippi House, 38 members of the 122 members are Black.
The complaint says Mississippi’s population could support at least four more majority-Black Senate districts and at least 3 additional majority-Black House districts "where Black voters ... have previously been unable to elect candidates of their choice." mississippifreepress.org/29900/state-di…
