Scott Paul: The focus of the new select committee on China, chaired by Rep. Mike Gallagher, is important. I hope this committee is taken seriously & makes recommendations to other committees.

Scott Paul: Up until now, we haven't seen a lot of action congressionally on China. To Biden's credit, instead of reverting to traditional Dem. policies on China, he doubled down on some of the things Trump did.

Scott Paul: Things will never return to what they were 25 yrs ago; there's been too much change, but it is possible to reset the relationship to disentangle ourselves from China, such as with sensitive supply chain issues.

Scott Paul: We used to have factories, and now we have dollar stores.
Rick: And drug & alcohol recovery centers.
Scott: It'll take a long time to get that back but it'll happen.

Rick: Even the people who still have manufacturing jobs are suffering b/c they make wage & benefit concessions when companies threaten to take their jobs overseas.

Scott Paul: We need to make sure the committee on China is well-represented by the Heartland. It's important to show we're doing something about China instead of ignoring the issues.

Scott Paul: We need to build up our own capacity, we need to work with our allies, & we need to strongarm corporations into relocating their plants out of China. These are all policy choices.

Scott: If companies say prices will go up b/c of leaving China, I hope consumers stand up to them & tell them we shouldn't have to pay more just b/c the companies relied on & profited from slave labor.
Rick: I'm okay paying a little more for USA, union-made products

Scott Paul: Trump's admin did major damage to all of us around the world. Biden has provided a more united front to China, incl standing with our allies. I think Biden has gotten it "more right" than any other Dem president.
