Most people say they want to work remotely but DON'T know the challenges remote workers face. 🙄

Let's talk about the various CHALLENGES we face in NIGERIA as REMOTE WORKERS. Shall we? 🤔

A THREAD: 🛢️
1. One challenge remote workers in Nigeria face is limited access to a reliable internet connection.
The internet infrastructure in Nigeria is not as well developed as in some other countries, which can make it difficult for remote workers to stay connected and productive. 🙃
I nearly missed an assessment two days ago due to MTN's poor network coverage. 😑😒
Just last night, I was having an interview with a prospective employer on Microsoft teams, and I didn't even hear a quarter of what they said. I was only using my gut to flow with them.
Based on that, my chances have already been reduced by 50%. Sigh.😫😿
2. Another challenge is time zone differences.

Nigeria is in a different time zone from many other countries, making it difficult for remote workers to communicate and collaborate with colleagues and clients in different time zones.
My interview yesterday was done at 8: 15pm WAT, and the person who interviewed me was using EST zone. Imagine if it falls at midnight. Can you have a meeting at 3am in the morning? Those are the issues!
3. Limited access to technology and equipment
Many remote workers like us may not have access to the latest technology and equipment, making it difficult to perform their work effectively. Imagine using my HP with a slow battery to render videos... Sigh.
4. Power supply
Power cuts, scarcity, and supply fluctuation are common in the country, which can greatly hinder effective work. Last week, just when I was about to deliver a task, they took our light. Don't even ask about my generator because it stopped working the
previous night. I dashed to town, but they took the light just as I entered the library. Imagine the stress! I had to find a barbing salon to work at and deliver the task within 15 minutes.

5. Remote workers in Nigeria may also face societal pressure and cultural challenges.
Traditional societal beliefs may not support remote working, and the remote worker may face pressure from friends, family, and the community to conform to traditional working norms. I can't imagine how often I had to convince my Dad I am not into Yahoo or Fraudulent schemes.
😶
Neighbors find it hard to believe you are into a legit business. At one point, I had to make a yearly subscription to a private library so I could leave my house daily.
Which challenge can you relate to as a remote worker?
How did you overcome these challenges as a remote worker?
