In April 2022, we moved our business to National City from Otay Mesa.
In the 4 years in Otay Mesa, we had zero incidents.
Within two weeks, there was a burglary for over $100k dollars in assets.
This devastated me emotionally as well as financially.

As someone who has always appreciated the Police Dept, (even in times when they were running out of fans), I knew to call the non-emergency line and file a police report as soon as possible.
The officers were professional and seemed to take my concerns seriously.

After going back and forth for the next couple weeks, compiling all of the data and figuring out what exactly was missing, the police report was filed.
Unfortunately, we had just moved in and didn't have cameras yet, so there was not much the police dept could do.

Of the next couple of months, we improved the security of the building we were in. Upgraded our alarm system, installed cameras, fortified the structural integrity of the building.
Meanwhile, at a scrapyard two blocks away, there was a mechanic. This mechanic was heavy into narcotics.
According to an employee at the scrapyard, this mechanic got fired because he was wildin' out.
We will refer to this guy later, as simply... The Methcanic.

All of our repairs are up, and our buildings fortified, and if you enter our building, motion detectors will go off and you will be caught, and at the very least I will get a picture of your face.

Alarm goes off. Just one motion sensor.
Security company calls me and said, two motions are required for police, but it may just be a bird.
So, the next morning I head there at 4am. Look at the cameras, and indeed I see a bird flying inside. 🤔

I can not understand how this bird is getting inside. Everything is sealed off. It just didn't make sense.

It was a burglar (probably the same one as before) using the ole' Canary in a Coal Mine Trick.
He was gauging ours and the polices reaction to the situation.
This time, the situation was different...

Him and his girlfriend, (allegedly), roam National City on a bicycle with a Dolly cart and terrorize local businesses at night for drug money.

So, I'm completely frustrated and bamboozled. I filed another police report. But I'm also hopeful, because I have him on camera

I survey, going from business to business, everyone (well, except for the scrapyard I was told he worked at) knew who he was, and had a bad story about him.
This guy is like the 4'9" Deebo.
I did stakeouts. Learned the layout of the land.

I found out exactly where he lived. Shared a map to the police department.
I was behind him at a stoplight, he was trying to get a bunch of pallets onto his cart. I took more pictures.

I shared all of this with my 2nd officer, who later told me they were really busy, which I believe is probably true.
A couple weeks later they said they would look into it when they get a chance.

Then I did more staking out.
One night I saw the Methcanic, attacking a power line poll, like he was training for MMA.
He was in front of the scrapyard, JW Metals. I saw the people out front just watching like they were the audience.

So the next day I asked some employees about him, and they told me the story about how he used to work there.
So, then I had one of my employees message the owner on Facebook.
She told him about the burglary, and asked if he knew who she was.

That's not a nice neighbor.
Think about that: a scrapyard making money off of the burglaries in the neighborhood, and allegedly, one of their own former employees is their customer, and we are the victims.

So, I never heard anything back from the Police.
I kind of gave up.
Because, I tracked the Methcanic down. Found out where he slept. Found out his former associates. And, nothing happened.
I knew it was a matter of time.

Burglary #3: Last Night
I got a notification that the power went out in my facility, and that nearby neighbors reported the same.
It was down for an hour and a half.
The burglar struck again, using power tools to rip up my building and steal power cabling.

Since the power went down, I have no camera footage. So now I need to invest in a backup generator that will require city permits because permitting is the most efficient part of this city.
Do I blame this on the officers?
