It would be wrong to say that video game adaptations haven’t improved since the 90s. But while movies like Detective Pikachu and Werewolves Within entertain, they’re not considered prestigious, and a widespread perception persists that Hollywood just does not get games. 2/13
Previous video game adaptations, largely attempts by non-gamers, have delivered “projects that can feel inauthentic to the game-playing audience and be downright confusing to the non-gaming viewer,” says Casey Baltes, head of interactive programming for the Tribeca Festival. 3/13
Pedro Pascal has already ascended into stardom by playing dark and conflicted saviors in shows like The Mandalorian. But his upcoming role in #TheLastofUs puts him on the cusp of a different kind of fame—the kind that turns actors into icons: wired.com/story/pedro-pa…📸@yopeteryang
But the man behind the tortured and distant heroes he plays isn’t that—he’s a joker, and the internet will be pleased to know, a hugger. The humility, empathy, and nuance he brings to his roles are central to his own humanity.
“I feel like that's the fun part: how much you get to use your imagination or externalize internal darkness in a safe way and bring things that are from your nightmares," says Pascal.
Allison Williams is the star of the new movie #M3GAN. It’s a killer robot thriller that might also be a movie about Allison Williams herself. 📸: The Tyler Twins wired.trib.al/xrhucVP 1/7
With an English degree from Yale, Williams is no stranger to elaborate ideas like the metaverse, strategy, and thinking outside the box—making her a natural fit for the role of #M3GAN’s Gemma, an AI genius. 2/7
“I couldn’t resist an ambiguous creator figure,” says Williams, who sees in #M3GAN a family resemblance to one of her favorite books, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The chance to toy with viewers entices her and draws her back to horror. 3/7
