Yet, 150 years later, it was near collapse. While many factors contributed, the debasement of the Roman currency was a major catalyst.
3/ The Roman Denarius, once 95% silver, began its steady decline. By A.D. 170, it was only 75% silver. By A.D. 211, 60%. By A.D. 270, just 5%.
