Lauren, you would think now that you’re in the majority, you would actually consider reading the bills you tweet about. Or, maybe even hire someone who could help you. This tweet is inflammatory and fact-less and you know it.
For starters, it took me about 32 seconds of reading the article you cited to understand that none of you know what you are talking about. H.R. 61 simply deals with adding white supremacy to a list of reasons to be convicted of a hate crime.
So when the article states that “only white people can be charged with” this crime, that’s flagrantly false.
Your argument *assumes* that only white people can hold white supremacist views and that only certain groups of people can perpetrate violence motivated by white supremacy.
I would hope now that your argument would not shift to “why is white supremacy being added to this law?” That would be egregious.
If so, are you going to deny that white supremacy played a role in the Charlottesville attack when Nazi-sympathizers belched “Jews will not replace us?” Who is “us?”
Further, are you going to deny that white supremacy played a role in the Buffalo shooting after the shooter cited “replacement theory” as his motive to begin a murderous rampage at the closest zip code with the highest black population?
And then, are you going to deny that the Trump-appointed Director of the FBI testified in March 2021 under oath, under penalty of perjury, that white supremacy was the greatest domestic terror threat facing our country in the Senate Judiciary committee hearing, March 2nd, 2021?
It is because of these acts, that my bill, the LAWS Act, adds to Section 249(a)(1) of title 18 of the U.S. criminal code after the words “race, color, religion, national origin,” the language “or because a white supremacy based motivation against any person.”
Yes, white supremacy should be added to this law. Why? Because as Director Wray testified, it’s a major domestic terrorist threat.
As the nation begins to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday and my mind is focused on his legacy, you have the audacity to take time out to spout off and misuse your Twitter account to discuss a bill you either you don’t understand or you haven’t even read!
Now let me be clear, I’d be happy to sit down with you to explain the importance of this legislation.
Or on the other hand, if you desire to defend acts of white supremacy or maybe even be one if your heart desires, that is your choice to make; it’s protected by the first amendment; and I fully support the protections of the first amendment for every American.
With that being said, I hope we can all now honor Dr. King’s legacy together.

While I respect your military service and sacrifice to our nation, you do not have a pass to mislead the public. As a re-elected member of congress, you know that office moves are solely handled by the Architect of the Capitol (AOC). You know I had nothing to do with this.
As you voted against certifying the 2020 election results *after* January 6th, it is not surprising that you would take to Twitter to parrot yet another big lie. Let’s talk about it:
This is currently the scene in Washington. As you can see there are a lot of moving pieces moving around.
Congresswoman Jackson Lee will send a letter immediately to the appropriate federal agency health officials and senior health policy makers within the administration to again request the expeditious move to produce monkeypox vaccines in the United States.
The crisis in New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, and other cities are begging for monkeypox vaccine production in the United States. Already persons needing the vaccine have been turned away because none are available.
Now let’s move resources as quickly as possible to stand up production capacity within the United States. Congress certainly will be prepared to assist with these efforts. I appreciate the work the administration has already done.
Today, I am saluting a great American, a great champion, and a great leader. I’m expressing my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Bill Russell, who passed away at the age of 88.
Bill Russell showed us what leadership can be in the face of adversity and how to defeat discrimination and racism with grace and a strong fight. He stood by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and he was a champion for civil rights.
Bill Russell always stood to defend his fellow players who might face discrimination. He showed us how to play sports in the right way, and he showed us what a real champion was eleven championships in 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics.
It is shameful that Asim Ghafoor, the former lawyer of Jamal khashoggi, is now wrongfully held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after being detained while transiting through the Dubai International Airport.
He was convicted in absentia on currently unsubstantiated charges and sentenced to three years in prison without being provided any information regarding the charges against him nor being given the opportunity to defend himself.
Asim grew up in Texas and worked for the United States Congress.
There is no basis for Asim to be held. I am asking the UAE to show and give humanitarian relief to Asim Ghafoor and they must do it now!
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee joins Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis for one of the nation’s most successful gun buyback programs with close to 800 guns turned in and more people are in line.
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has pushed for gun buyback programs through her Chairmanship of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime.
I just left the gun buyback in Houston, Texas - it is the first one held in many years. This gun buyback shows that our community wants to help bring down the crime rates, the tragedy of suicides, gun violence, and to protect their families and their children.
Soon the House will vote on final passage of the Inflation Reduction and Budget Reconciliation bill. As a member of the House Budget Committee this is a great win for the State of Texas.
I have fought consistently for Texas, which has the highest number of uninsured residents to have better healthcare.
This bill will provide additional subsidies for working families so that they can have access to the Affordable Care Act to have better healthcare for them and their children. In addition, we worked hard to reduce the cost of insulin to be capped at $35 dollars.
