Statement Of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee On Push To Get Texas Children Fed Through USDA Summer Feeding Program.

It is a shame Texas chose not to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to resolve Texas procedural deficiencies in order to feed more… than a million Texas children during the summer as a part of the USDA’s new children’s free feeding program. This would have helped so many children that are food insecure or just plain hungry during the summer.

As the founder and chair of the U.S. House’s Congressional Pakistan caucus, I am extremely concerned about the reports that are coming out of Pakistan of human rights abuses and the lack of protection for those who express peaceful opposition to the government. I am particularly concerned that the former head of state has been arrested multiple times and there appears to be no provisions for a just response to this apparent unfairness and to those who should have rights to a free, safe and unfettered protest.

The George Floyd Justice and Policing Act is a bill that will protect all Americans and serve the needs of All Communities.  The bill is in George Floyd’s name to ensure that all communities live in peace. They have a focus on shining a light on laws that are not adhered to, but that are intended to protect communities.

My heart goes out to the Uvalde families one year of pain after hearing of the brutal killings of their children and loved ones. They have yet to get justice and in all the times I visited them, they simply wanted justice. They have lived this past year fighting for the recognition and dignity of their children and loved ones.

As we move toward Memorial Day, I’m standing up for our nation by enthusiastically signing and supporting a discharge petition that would immediately bring a vote to the floor to stop the default in order to pay America’s bills. I cannot stand by with the potential of thirty million veterans not getting their medical appointments across the nation.
