Statement Of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee On Push To Get Texas Children Fed Through USDA Summer Feeding Program.

It is a shame Texas chose not to work with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to resolve Texas procedural deficiencies in order to feed more… than a million Texas children during the summer as a part of the USDA’s new children’s free feeding program. This would have helped so many children that are food insecure or just plain hungry during the summer.

As the founder and chair of the U.S. House’s Congressional Pakistan caucus, I am extremely concerned about the reports that are coming out of Pakistan of human rights abuses and the lack of protection for those who express peaceful opposition to the government. I am particularly concerned that the former head of state has been arrested multiple times and there appears to be no provisions for a just response to this apparent unfairness and to those who should have rights to a free, safe and unfettered protest.

My heart goes out to the Uvalde families one year of pain after hearing of the brutal killings of their children and loved ones. They have yet to get justice and in all the times I visited them, they simply wanted justice. Image They have lived this past year fighting for the recognition and dignity of their children and loved ones.

As we move toward Memorial Day, I’m standing up for our nation by enthusiastically signing and supporting a discharge petition that would immediately bring a vote to the floor to stop the default in order to pay America’s bills. I cannot stand by with the potential of thirty million veterans not getting their medical appointments across the nation.

Lauren, you would think now that you’re in the majority, you would actually consider reading the bills you tweet about. Or, maybe even hire someone who could help you. This tweet is inflammatory and fact-less and you know it. For starters, it took me about 32 seconds of reading the article you cited to understand that none of you know what you are talking about. H.R. 61 simply deals with adding white supremacy to a list of reasons to be convicted of a hate crime.

While I respect your military service and sacrifice to our nation, you do not have a pass to mislead the public. As a re-elected member of congress, you know that office moves are solely handled by the Architect of the Capitol (AOC). You know I had nothing to do with this. As you voted against certifying the 2020 election results *after* January 6th, it is not surprising that you would take to Twitter to parrot yet another big lie. Let’s talk about it:

Congresswoman Jackson Lee will send a letter immediately to the appropriate federal agency health officials and senior health policy makers within the administration to again request the expeditious move to produce monkeypox vaccines in the United States. The crisis in New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, and other cities are begging for monkeypox vaccine production in the United States. Already persons needing the vaccine have been turned away because none are available.

Today, I am saluting a great American, a great champion, and a great leader. I’m expressing my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Bill Russell, who passed away at the age of 88. Image Bill Russell showed us what leadership can be in the face of adversity and how to defeat discrimination and racism with grace and a strong fight.  He stood by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and he was a champion for civil rights.

It is shameful that Asim Ghafoor, the former lawyer of Jamal khashoggi, is now wrongfully held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after being detained while transiting through the Dubai International Airport. He was convicted in absentia on currently unsubstantiated charges and sentenced to three years in prison without being provided any information regarding the charges against him nor being given the opportunity to defend himself.

Soon the House will vote on final passage of the Inflation Reduction and Budget Reconciliation bill. As a member of the House Budget Committee this is a great win for the State of Texas. I have fought consistently for Texas, which has the highest number of uninsured residents to have better healthcare.

Brittney Griner was again in a Russian court today. The results were as usual. Russia dragging out this unjust process; lack of due process; lack of justice, and the trial will continue. A defense witness was presented today, but the same inhumane conditions of traveling in a cage to the court, sitting in a cage at the court existed.

1/4 In arriving in region of Ukraine and Lithuania, I immediately began to participate in meetings to stop Russia from engaging in full-scale war. Putin's complete elimination of the historical truth, unfortunately, has laid the groundwork for his already intended desires to 2/4 invade Ukraine. We have to stop him in his tracks to continue regional security for nations like Lithuania, Ukraine, and even Belarus, which has already fallen to Russian dominance. It is important for the President to continue his leadership with our NATO allies, including

The refugees that have fled to #DelRio are human beings fleeing the most desperate circumstances. Violence, extreme poverty and political oppression.

1/4 On the Monday after Mother's Day, I want to ensure that my words of appreciation and love for mothers in America and around the world are spoken. To the mothers who, through this year-plus of the COVID-19 pandemic, have been so many things to so many people, from 2/4 being mothers, teachers, healers, comforters, and yes, we even had mothers who lost their own lives in the battle against COVID-19. Yesterday was the day to remember them all and for us to never forget the depth of love, dedication, commitment, sacrifice, and service, and

1/4 Testimony today on the Hill evidences that in the Portland protests, a thousand people were arrested. People protesting against the violence that was evidenced in the George Floyd murder. People wanting good things to happen. In Washington DC on January 6th, where it is 2/4 alleged that 40,000 protesters were in DC with the mindset to overturn a legitimate election and to kill the Speaker, the Vice President, and Members of Congress, in that instance, only 300 persons have now been arrested and are being prosecuted. What kind of justice is that?

1/5 I am more than disappointed and, in fact, stunned by the removal of the COVID-19 mandates in the State of Texas that has for many weeks been a hot spot for COVID-19. These are the numbers that are real: 504,499 deaths in the United States, 46,738 currently hospitalized, and 2/5 28,399,281 infections; 42,995 deaths in Texas, 5,611 currently hospitalized, and 2,647,845 cases.
