When vm first meet they feel a connection they've never felt with anyone else. All his life jm has seen soulmates as a stupid concept that can't possibly be real but th feels like the other half of himself that jm never even knew he was missing.

It should have been the start to their very own fairytale with a guaranteed happy ending but instead, when they check their soul marks... they don't match.

The PJN on th's skin is so close to being right and so is jm's KIH but there's no denying they're not soulmates. Jm's heart tells him that th is his but it's all a lie. Th belongs to someone else that he's never even met and that breaks jm's heart every time he thinks about it.

Despite non-soulmate relationships being taboo in society, vm date anyway, too in love to even consider leaving each other and willing to risk everything for their forbidden love.

As years go by jm starts to assume that the tattoos are simply wrong. It feels like heaven on earth but jm's entire life comes crashing down when he appears... Kim Ilhyun.

When he first arrives at jm's workplace jm assumes he's nothing more than a new coworker, shrugging off the weird feelings he gets whenever he's around the man until he sees ilhyun's soul mark, the letters pjm written across his wrist.

Jm feels like his life is ending but when he tells th everything, th simply accepts it - hugging jm close, wiping away his tears and telling jm to give it a chance. Not everyone gets to meet their soulmate so jm is so lucky to have found th and to now find his true soulmate.

After lots of persuasion from th, jm lets ilhyun take him on a date, trying his best to give the man a genuine chance but it seems doomed from the start.

Ilhyun takes jm to an japanese restaurant and orders them multiple dishes to share.

Th would know that jm hates raw fish and is grossed out by sharing food with strangers.

Ilhyun spends all of dinner chatting away about his own interests and life story.

Th can always tell when jm has something to say and never cuts him off in the middle of a sentence no matter how excited he gets.

Ilhyun takes Jimin for a walk in the park after dinner and squeezes his hand too tight.

Th always holds jm's right hand when they walk because he knows jm's broke his left hand a few years ago and it goes numb when held too long.

Ilhyun tastes like fish and stale popcorn when he kisses jm.

Th always tastes like his peppermint lip balm during every single kiss.

Even hours later jm will never know how it happened. One moment he was kissing ilhyun, the next he was crying and desperately trying to type th's number into his phone with blood stained hands.

With as ilhyun bleeds out, jm sobs into the phone, trying to explain what happened but unable to get the words out properly. He's still struggling to speak when he hears footsteps behind him, th wrapping jm in his arms, soothing jm and promising to make everything ok again.

It doesn't take long to determine that ilhyun is dead, head bleeding horribly from where it hit a stone bench. Together they clean up the scene - jm hauling his body into the nearby wooded area to start digging a grave while th scrubs up all visible bloodstains.

Jm started the night terrified that he'd lose his lover but by the time the sun rises, they're closer than ever. When they get home after an exhausting night th is as cheery as ever, clinging to jm and kissing him until he can't feel anyone else's hands on him anymore.

From that day forward they never mention jm's supposed soulmate, returning to their blissful life with an added layer of love and trust.

It's not until th comes home with another man in tow that jm realises they've both been living on the edge, braced for when th also discovers his own soulmate.

Th's soulmate Park Jaenam turns out to be a barista at their local coffee shop, a cute, quiet boy that wrote his name and number on th's hot chocolate and who, if jm allows himself to think rationally, may actually fit well with th if jm wasn't in the picture.

Jaenam is well out of his element, waiting wide eyed and innocent in their living room as th drags jm away to talk. It doesn't take long for them to agree that jaenam needs to go, th having brought him home just so he could present him to jm to prove his devotion.

Together they work together to kill the boy, jm holding him down so th can slit his throat before they dispose of his body where they'd hidden ilhyun's.

That night is the best of jm's life. Finally both of their soulmates have been disposed of and they never have to worry about anyone coming between them ever again.

Vm spend three days in bed together basking in each other's company before agreeing there's just one last thing to do and heading to the tattoo parlour.

Changing soulmate marks is illegal but with enough money they manage to bribe a tattoo artist to change PJN to PJM and KIH to KTH so from that day on, to the two of them and to everyone else in the world, jm and th are soulmates and no one can tell them otherwise.
