Veteran Bharatanatyam dancer, writer and speaker Lakshmi Viswanathan passed away this morning in Madras. She was 79 years old.
Atma Shanti 🙏🏼
Lakshmi came from a family of artistes and art patrons. She was the daughter of K Viswanathan, the younger brother of the famous Tamil movie director K Subramanyam. Dancer Padma Subramanyam is her first cousin.
Lakshmi began her training in Bharatanatyam in the Vazhuvoor Baani under Kaushalya, a disciple of Ramaiah Pillai. Later she trained under Courtalam Ganesha Pillai and Sankari of Kalakshetra. She became a disciple of Kanchipuram Elappa Pillai. Her Arangetram was held in 1953.
An IIM graduate, an IPS officer with an incredible track record of meritorious service, from a humble farmer’s family who has seen abject poverty! came up with his own hard work!
Now with @BJP4India, Sri @annamalai_k avargal has what it takes to change the course of history!
I really hope this book is translated into many languages and reaches far and wide!
Khara-Khoto was a thriving Buddhist center of learning with over 10,000 residents. It was destroyed, like most other ancient Buddhist sites,by bloodthirsty Mohammadeans.
Its well-preserved ruins, including temples and manuscripts, were only rediscovered in the early 20th cent.
"The Ming dynasty laid siege to the city in 1372. After its defeat, Khara-Khoto was abandoned and fell into ruins.
Now all that remains of this great city are 30-foot-tall ramparts, a few 40-foot high pagodas, and what appears to be a mosque."
🙄🙄🙄
What did you think P B Shelley's famous sonnet was about?
