1/ Members of the European Parliament voted yesterday to support the establishment of a special war crimes tribunal to try Russian President Vladimir Putin and other top Russians. However, 19 MEPs voted against. The Russian 'We can explain' (MO) Telegram channel discusses why. ⬇️

2/ Describing them as "old friends of the Kremlin", MO says that the 19 "were favourites of Russian propaganda who took part in events in Moscow at the expense of the Russian budget." It highlights five individuals in particular.

3/ They include two members of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, Gunnar Beck and Maximilian Krah.

4/ "The latter believes that economic sanctions against Russia are leading to the collapse of Europe and, shortly before the war, argued that pressure should be put on Kyiv over the Minsk agreements.

5/ "Beck is a long-time favourite of Russian propaganda. In August he claimed that the Russian Federation had not been seen supporting terrorism within the EU.

6/ In 2021, he went to Moscow to observe the 2021 Duma elections at the personal invitation of Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and found no violations."

7/ "Another national propaganda darling, French National Front spokesman Herve Juvin, supported Russia. In June he called NATO the main threat to peace, accused Zelensky of interfering in the French elections.

8/ "Before the war he went to Crimea and urged Kyiv to recognise the independence of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics.

9/ Francesca Donato of the Italian Northern League in April doubted Russia's responsibility for the tragedy in Bucha, and blamed the EU for unleashing the war in Ukraine.

10/ Nationalist Miroslav Radačovský of the Slovak PATRIOT party came to Moscow on 8 May last year for a roundtable discussion on "Russia and Europe - how to preserve relations and historical memory?"

11/ Tatiana Zhdanoka of the Russian Union of Latvia also supported Putin and demanded that Europe stop killing children in Donbass. /end
