Socialist councilwoman Kshama Sawant won't run for re-election. There's a reason for it and it's not that she doesn't have a fringe base for support -- she does.

She's not running because she's become wholly ineffective on the council. Few like her. She's toxic. /1
When she was first elected, she undoubtedly had legislative accomplishments like #15Now, which then-mayor Ed Murray tried to steal credit for. But that was Sawant.

She used to speak to all media outlets (I did a couple dozen interviews with her) and be more proactive. /2
But she grew angrier and more isolated due, I think, the recall efforts against her. She BARELY scraped by the last recall challenge. People were growing weary of her nasty and divisive rhetoric. /3
But most importantly: her council colleagues, who are almost all as extreme as she is on most issues, didn't want anything to do with her. She was always so brand focused, which irked many in City Hall. But she was also just rude and unpleasant to be around. /4
That's part of the reason why she's been less effective: she has no allies on the Council. And the media hasn't covered her much because reporters grew tired of her lazy "corporate media" attacks and her office generally doesn't respond to many requests anyway. /5
Now she'll lead some activist movement to be the thorn in the side of Democrats. Good. This will likely mean moderate candidates will have a chance of getting into the race because Sawant will start pushing the crazy to run for council seats. It'll alienate most voters. /6
There are a ton of crazies concentrated in only two districts. It's why running a crazy against more moderate Alex Pedersen failed.

She's still a threat in that her cult will be motivated and active, so you can't count her out. But it gives a path for smart moderates to take. /7
In the end, Sawant ran her course. She changed Seattle for the worse, so I'm happy to see her go. Now we just have to make sure she (and other councilmembers who are calling it quits), aren't replaced by people as destructive as Sawant. /end
*isn't.

Things we should know after this upcoming presser:

1) Is the would-be assassin a lone wolf or working with a group? Did he identify with a group?

2) Was he known to law enforcement?

3) Did he post anything only to indicate he would pull something like this? Where did he post?
20-year-old male? I’d bet he spoke about his hate — online — out in the open.
It seems hard to believe they don't already know who the suspect is or what the motive was, but that could be due to the condition the body is in after being taken out, I suppose.

It can possibly mean they have other suspects that they don't want to tip-off.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal is an absolute monster who loathes Israel & Jews.

She repeatedly & falsely accuses Israel of "indiscriminately" targeting civilians & hospitals.

Dana Bash asked about Israeli women being raped & Jayapal pivots to attacking Israel. Bash calls her out.
Keep in mind, Jayapal won't admit that Hamas broke the ceasefire, claims Israel should commit to an indefinite ceasefire despite being attacked, falsely claims Israel is targeting civilians, and immediately pivots to attacking Israel when Hamas rape charges are brought up.
On a side note: she claims she's condemned Hamas raping women before. I've not been able to find a single instance. I've reached out to her office -- if she's done that, I'll include it in a piece I'm writing.

Pro-Israel rally underway in Bellevue, put on by @SWU_NW.

Unlike the pro-Hamas rallies, there won’t be calls for violence or genocide. And there will be a celebration of Israel and USA.
Randy Kessler with Stand With Us is speaking about the unity they’re seeing around Israel and Jews — despite all the hate mongers rallying around the country. Not everyone supports Hamas.
“Bellevue is with you.” -Bellevue deputy mayor Jared Nieuwenhuis.

"We don't want Israel to exist. We don't want these Zionist counter protesters to exist." -one of the so-called "peace keepers" at the UW-Seattle pro-Hamas, anti-Semite rally. 📸@kattressa

Just cc'ing @KING5Seattle @KIRO7Seattle @komonews @fox13seattle and @seattletimes so they're aware of this before they dare pretend this event was anything more than a hate rally as part of their coverage. Stop sanitizing this.

NEW: Gov. Jay Inslee just vetoed a budget proviso requiring community notice and consultation for placing sexually violent predator housing. He claims it's too burdensome.

The new Progressive 'equity' cause is to favor sex offenders at your expense. This is the Democrat party. Image
Republican leadership responds. Democrats should be condemning this — but will they? Image
This is what Jay Inslee believes in:

Activists pushed the San Francisco Democratic Party to not recognize the Westside Family Democratic Club.

A vulgar activist said the word "family" is a "common dog whistle on the right" & one claimed it's a racist & fascist organization that's secretly a Republican group.🧵
Board members seemed to agree with the activists.

Secretary Anabel Ibanez asked a group representative what percentage of its members are racial and gender minorities, if they supported BLM and last year's School Board recall, and if he can define "family."
To be clear: Ibanez asked for the members' income info, racial backgrounds, gender identities and sexual orientations. She even appears to want them to pass some kind of political litmus test.

This is, of course, ludicrous. But in S.F., it's par for the course.
