Today, on what would be the 50th Anniversary of #RoeVWade, @aijenpoo shared the following statement:
“Everyone should have the opportunity and means to care and make decisions for themselves, their families and futures. 1/8
No matter what it looks like or the role we play, family is at the heart of what we value most. The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn #RoeVWade has taken away one critical way people can manage their lives, health, and wellbeing. 2/8
Forcing someone to carry a pregnancy against their will can have devastating and lasting consequences for them and their family. 3/8
Abortion bans push women and families deeper into poverty and especially harm those working to make ends meet, queer people, young people, and people of color. 4/8
Our health care system already fails disabled people, and Black, Indigenous, and other people of color. Barriers to abortion care make that worse. 5/8
When politicians restrict abortion care, they take away people’s ability to control their lives, bodies, and futures, and their ability to live with dignity. And too often policies and programs don’t address the health and economic needs of women, families, and caregivers. 6/8
It doesn’t have to be this way. We need Family First policies and programs that support families with the tools they need to do well and build a good life — such as good wages, childcare, paid leave, equitable health care, aging and disability care. 7/8
And we demand access to abortion care without barriers. We join the calls for bold solutions that ensure #abortion is available, affordable, and supported for anyone who needs it.” 8/8
This past weekend, Daniel Davis Aston, Derrick Rump, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh, and Raymond Green Vance were killed by a hate-filled gunman at a gay and lesbian bar in Colorado Springs. 19 people were injured and yet another queer community in this country is reeling. 1/4
Our hearts are broken. But we also know that words are not enough.
The truth is hundreds of millions of queer and trans people across the country — and the world — feel unsafe in their communities every day. 2/4
We’re dedicated to protecting the rights of all queer and trans people every day — and fighting back against the wave of homophobic and transphobic rhetoric, legislative bills, and the hate crimes they produce. 3/4
