Thirteen words from Ruch's 5/4/21 diocesan letter disclosing allegations of sexual abuse.
"I have been keeping my superior, Archbishop Foley Beach, apprised of the situation."
The letter continues:
"... I have done the same with the Bishop's Council of the Upper Midwest Diocese and Church of the Resurrection's Vestry. They are highly supportive of all the decisions described in this letter."
So too do @The_ACNA chancellors, Scott Ward and Jeff Garrety.
So does @The_ACNA Provincial Office (COO Bp. Alan Hawkins & Comms Director Andrew Gross), and at least some in @The_ACNA Executive Committee and the Am. Anglican Council.
Silence.
Silence speaks volumes.
@The_ACNA clergy and members, please call for truth and justice. Please do not stand by and accept the silence of your leaders.
Peoples' lives depend on truth being told.

.@The_ACNA silence to abuse allegations continues.
The College of Bishops met last week, but no known action in response to TWO investigations of alleged abuse mishandling by @MidwestAnglican Bp. Stewart Ruch has yet been publicly communicated. 🧵
The @HuschBlackwell report, released 9/27 & removed 9/30 for further redaction after outcry has not been re-released by @The_ACNA Provincial Office, despite daily requests.
There has been no public communication about the end date of the other investigation into spiritual abuse ("ecclesiastical abuse of power") in @MidwestAnglican by @TeliosLaw, nor conclusions drawn via @The_ACNA's Principal Investigative Team or @ArchbishopFoley's recommendations.
Long after @ChurchRez knew of allegations - AND CONFESSIONS - of member Chris Lapeyre's inappropriate relationship with teenagers, I was invited to have my teenager join an English class being taught at his home.
I knew nothing because leaders SAID NOTHING.
When we were brand new at @ChurchRez, a priest introduced my family to another family to help us find community.
He failed to tell us that the husband was REMOVED PERMANENTLY from CHILDREN'S MINISTRY roughly 14 yrs ago.
I was told by multiple people that at @ChurchRez's 11/10 meeting, Bp. Stewart Ruch stressed numerous times the separation between @greenhousemove church plant Christ Our Light Anglican Church (COLA) and @ChurchRez.
First, as a @ChurchRez member, I saw COLA member Chris Lapeyre so often at @ChurchRez that I thought he was a member of @ChurchRez. He played guitar frequently on @ChurchRez's worship team.
COLA's Fr. Rand York had been very involved at @ChurchRez for many years. Even after leaving to lead at COLA, Fr. York sang Don Francisco's He's Alive at @ChurchRez's annual Easter Vigil. It had become a tradition that many of us looked forward to each year.
"Someone on staff reported the mother's allegations to the authorities."
I heard this from every single @ChurchRez congregant I spoke with last fall. I heard it from clergy. I heard it from @MidwestAnglican members in Minnesota.
But here's the thing: by mid-fall, the mother had requested records for her daughter from every possible authority source.
The only call logged was hers.
Carrying these two dissonant *facts* was weighty.
.@ACNAtoo published the truth. Very quickly the rumor morphed.
"Staff didn't need to report because a parent did."
I was driving home recently and, as has become the norm, my mind was carrying the pain I have watched individuals suffer at the hands of @The_ACNA.
Glancing out the window, I saw a small squirrel. It had just been hit by a vehicle and was writhing helplessly. Its end wasnear.
I knew in that instant that the victims I hold dear have suffered like this in the hands of powerful leaders. They were powerless, and the harm inflicted on them caused deep, life-altering wounds.
I gave my all to get them to leaders whom I thought would help.
They did not.
I have come to learn, however, that the job of the advocate is not so much to rescue as it is to remain present with - yes, even to join - the victim on their cross.
