I post about abuse of power, observing how leaders misuse their power & harm those they should protect.

Donald Trump just shut down a government agency (USAID) w/ no due process & no Congressional involvement, much less authorization.

Who will suffer? Those less powerful. 🧵 USAID has existed since 1961 (started by JFK) and does (or did) humanitarian and development work in over 100 countries worldwide. It was the largest funder of global health programs in the world.

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has resigned for failure to respond to reports of child abuse.

@The_ACNA, it's time to talk. 🧵 (18-post thread)

bbc.com/news/live/cj50… From 2007-2021, @The_ACNA @AnglicanDOMA @TheFallsChurch leaders heard reports of child sexual abuse by former pastor Jeff Taylor. They did not call authorities, notify the congregation, or initiate an investigation until 2023.

Because of their inaction,Taylor continued to abuse.

Abp. Steve Wood, you recently explained that you discovered last year "our court is only able to entertain one trial at a time."

You learned this while serving on the Trial Court itself. 1/7

WHY couldn't you, Abp. Wood - or ANY member of the Trial Court - explain this before now?

Signatories of the Ruch presentment even reached out to the Trial Court to ask about the schedule and what to expect in NOVEMBER, 2023. Twice.

No one wrote back. 2/7 Image

Fr. @PostCnsumrChris was threatened by unidentified "Provincial leaders" via his @The_ACNA bishop. (Listen to brief episode below for more explanation.)

About whom am I curious? Whom do I wish would speak up? 🧵

podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/res… 1) Bp. Stewart Ruch himself and/or his diocesan chancellor.

We already know that Ruch's former Advising Chancellor, Alec Smith, wrote Abp. Foley Beach in 2022 to complain about the harm being caused to Ruch.

A public letter to warn against participating in any investigation by @TeliosLaw.

Witnesses felt misrepresented in individual summaries they received, & they were shocked by the investigation firm's practice of reading names aloud during witness... 🧵

Survivors' voices have been taken away again, this time by yet another @The_ACNA bishop unwilling to stand against pressure from other leaders.

Please consider why this pause was demanded, and by whom. Who benefits from the silence?

Not survivors. 🧵

I am reminded of the parable of the Good Samaritan.

In 2021, I thought @MidwestAnglican Bp. Stewart Ruch & other leaders would see the need & stop to care for "ones on the roadside." Then I thought our @The_ACNA Archbishop, Foley Beach, would come to the rescue.

Across @The_ACNA, survivors of abuse who have attempted to follow the "official channels" and "trust the process" have found themselves dismissed, ignored, or frozen out.

Brother bishops, are you listening? Will the echoes of survivors' cries be heard in your conclave next week? Reports go unanswered. Promises to follow up go unfulfilled.

Mandated reporting does not happen, and there is no repercussion.

Inappropriate conduct is tolerated and overlooked.

Interview notes, sermon recordings, transcripts, contracts, and emails go missing or remain hidden.

Today a brave girl turns 15. @MidwestAnglican, Bp. Stewart Ruch, remember her?

@The_ACNA leaders, you've shown yourselves to be no more noble - nor truthful - than the Wizard of Oz. The Purple Wall of Silence rejects the sheep & protects the "shepherds."

Image Last year, Bp. Stewart Ruch called a fast on this day, after Archbishop Foley Beach revealed publicly that Ruch had months before successfully appealed for a Stay Order, a halt and gag order on his canonical disciplinary process.

"Either I believe this disgusting, incomprehensible story he's telling me, or I realize that my neighbor who's been in this community for more than 20 years and is a married church leader with four kids is also actually a rapist and a cold-blooded liar."

podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ep-… This is the moment where an abuse victim's life changes forever.

When the truth seems more improbable than the reality they have always known, the battle is already over.

And the abuser knows this.

Friday will mark 200 days since the last public communication from @The_ACNA about @MidwestAnglican Bp. Stewart Ruch's trial.

Ab. Foley's promise from July, 2021:
"We will provide timely updates as this process moves forward."

IS it moving forward? 🧵1/4
anglicanchurch.net/a-letter-from-… I am heartened to see 50+ clergy publicly voicing their disagreement with the silence.

But I am also disappointed. I thought there would be more of you. Where are you? Do you really think the silence - and the bishops' refusal to inhibit Ruch - is fine?

565 days since investigation of child/adult sex abuse mishandling ended. The @The_ACNA bishop in question continues to lead.

"Be patient, trust the process," they say.

"I don't have power. I'm not told anything."

"This is just a really sad situation."

Bishops, enough. Properly redacted @HuschBlackwell report:

After allegations of child & adult sex abuse mishandling by the @MidwestAnglican bishop were made public in 2021, leaders in @The_ACNA were made aware of another bishop's mishandling of clergy domestic violence.

Their response was to place the survivor in greater danger. .@The_ACNA International Diocese Chancellor Jeff Garrety sent the alleged survivor's report to all named parties without informing the survivor. He also gave specific guidance to those accused, but left the survivor with only a copy of "the appropriate canons."

Yesterday @ACNAtoo published an account of failed pastoral responses to disclosures of domestic violence, reports of child abuse, and complaints of sexual harassment. These failures went all the way to @The_ACNA's top leadership.

Why should we care? 🧵

acnatoo.org/international-… Sadly, our churches and their leaders are rarely safe for survivors of domestic violence to disclose the abuse they are experiencing. When they most need support, it is not given.

We must prioritize educating ourselves about domestic violence.

When an individual discloses clergy abuse, it should be equivalent to a 5-alarm fire for any denomination. Missional work should cease, & all focus should turn to response: bringing in an outside investigator & finding proper care for all involved.

It is a Church emergency. 🧵 But what often happens instead?

The individual(s) bringing complaints are given assurance that "there are official channels for this," and that the leadership truly does care, "it just takes time..."

Let's continue examining @MidwestAnglican investigation FAQ. This is Part II to my previous thread.

Q#6 explains trial composition/process.

Omitted: Bp. Stewart Ruch & @MidwestAnglican Chancellor Charlie Philbrick attempted to bring @The_ACNA Tribunal into the disciplinary process FAR in advance of where the canons place their authority.

Let's examine closely @MidwestAnglican's careful delivery of investigation info regarding Bp. Stewart Ruch (published 8.29.23).

The wording used in Q#1 is misleading. Compare to the wording of @The_ACNA's Constitution & Canons (see next).

Also note that this explanation gives the reader the impression that only 6 @MidwestAnglican members signed the presentment against Bp. Ruch. Image

Present at a 2022 @MidwestAnglican Bp's Council meeting: 3 attorneys representing @MidwestAnglican & 3 attorneys from @The_ACNA.

Attorney for Bp. Stewart Ruch suggests using "wording that is carful [sic] in terms of a legal and litigation perspective." So many ways @The_ACNA, @MidwestAnglican, and other dioceses have used lawyers to obscure truth.

For the past 6 months, parishioners & clergy have called upon @The_ACNA to release the properly redacted @HuschBlackwell report.

@The_ACNA has been completely silent. Why?

Is it possible that @MidwestAnglican Bp. Stewart Ruch is blocking the report's re-release? If so, how? 🧵 After review of investigation reports, the Provincial Investigative Team may have voted to recommend presentment charges against @MidwestAnglican Bp. Stewart Ruch.

Three bishops may have brought those charges forward.

But...
